Jumping up Slanted Rocks

Can anyone help me with this problem I have. I try to jump up rocks
sideways, and im talking about rocks that have a 40º angle or more, I
can jump onto them but my tire always seems to slip down at an alarming
rate. What im actually trying to do, is get to the top of the rock.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Should I lean into the slant? Is
this just something that happens with knobby DH tires? The same thing
happens to me when I jump/ride onto the same types of slants of packed
ice covered with lots of sand.

Im also afraid to jump off things that are more than about 1 1/2 feet,
and I will jump over some things that are a little over 2 feet. I think
im afraid of breaking my expense rim and or tire. each is priced at
about 50$ US and I don't get money very fast. Is this a legitimate fear
if I have a DH Rim and Tire?

Trie hopping head first at the rock with a bit of speed you willl probly have
more power to get up it… Dont worry about the money the rims will able to hold
up to a lot of pressure but if u land wrong then maybe it might do sumut.

Re: Jumping up Slanted Rocks

Well, I can just jump straight to the top if im going straight at it (as
long as it is no more than about a foot high), but what i am trying to learn
is jumping up the rocks sideways. Im trying to ride along rocks that are not
very wide. Because these are the rocks I cant ride over.

Re: Jumping up Slanted Rocks

Have u tried jumping like thay up smaller objects yet?

Re: Jumping up Slanted Rocks

Actually, I cant find many small obfect to try it on, the only ones I can
find are packed ice covered in alot of sand. this tends to work fine for
riding on until it is slanted more than about 40º angles. then the tire
just slips down. maybe i will be able to find something better once the
snow melts.

Re: Jumping up Slanted Rocks

Ice is hard to jump on the trick i found was learning forward with your hand on
the seat while keeping balence. BUT we have hardly any ice

Re: Jumping up Slanted Rocks

Actually, Ice isn’t bad at all when it is packed hard and covered in a lot
of sand. the sand clings to the ice and in turn the tire can cling to the
sand. but at about 40º angle the sand starts slipping… and sometimes the
ice just breaks away, which can get very annoying. and rough ice is easy.
very slick ice like on ice rinks is almost impossible to jump on, unless the
tire can dig
in.
