Juggling!

Hello everyone. It’s been awhile since I posted here. Anyway, I learned to juggle awhile ago and can do a 3 ball cascade for minutes on end and can do two in either hand for about 2 minutes each. I want to learn any form of 4 ball juggling and the 5 ball cascade. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for learning?

Start combining your two-in-one-hand with both hands.
Do them "together’ and ‘apart’.
ie. On a count of one, two, and a count of one, two, three, four.

With the cascade, start practising the “high cascade”.
Start the pattern, then throw all three ball to double (at least) their normal height, catch them and carry on with the cascade. Try n eventually do that continuously.
The space below the three balls will eventually be taken by the additional two balls and you’ll be juggling 5.
Start training your “off” hand now.
Almost always start your pattern with your “off” hand.
This is a weakspot that frustrates a lot of jugglers trying to go up to 5.

Like me.

GILD is spot on with that advice on four, there’s a few other ways of practicing to learn the 5 ball cascade. Learn the three ball flash, then try to flash them, hit your stomach with both hands (so the pattern still continues LRLRLRetc.) then when you catch them repeat starting on the other hand. You can also look into a trick called the snake however some say the best way to get into 5 is just start trying to throw all 5 until you can throw them all (all crossing, remember it’s the cascade) and catch them, this is how I’ve been trying and I’m getting some results.

A great tip if you want to improve your juggling is to join a juggling club or just go juggling with mates, it’s a really good way to trade techniques and there’s also something magic about loads of objects flying around the air.

I’m happy to see a juggling thread, managed to qualify 3 club mill’s mess last night at my juggling club, feels great getting a new trick

Hi Milosboy! Welcome to the fun world of juggling

If you are keen to learn four and five ball tricks thats great but you are going to have to be willing to put a LOT of time into it.

Much like learning to walk before you run, I would recommend spending time learning your way around three and four balls a bit better before you start to tackle five. Youtube and jugglers forums can help you out with what tricks to learn and I really think that having a nice little set of three and four ball tricks will be beneficial.

Most of all, when you begin to tackle five remember this. Being able to juggle five objects comfortably is a HUGE achievement in fine tuning your motor skills, and as such requires a lot of dedication and perserverence, it is not something easily done. It will be a lot harder going from four to five then it will from three to four.
