Jose Roman

Jose Roman Jr. will have his fourth birthday this week. For a present he asked
for a unicycle. His father gave him a 16" Semcycle XL.

His father, of course, is one of the most naturally talented unicyclists that I
have ever seen. Hope that his son will take our sport one step further.

I have purchased a 12" unicycle from Tom Miller for my 3-1/2 year old Ezra
Dibble. He is very enthusiastic but I have not had much luck in teaching him to
ride. Any suggestion on technique?

I should point out that his father is one of the least naturally talented
unicyclist you will ever see.

I started my daughter on a 12.5" unicycle from Tom Miller when she was almost 3.
Her attention span was quite short. She practiced occasionally for about 9
months before she could go forward with reasonable control.

I recommend two helpers, walking one on each side of the rider. Hold the rider’s
hands with just enough support to prevent most falls.

Don’t pressure the child to practice, but try to be available to help when she
wants to ride.
