Joost, new from the makers of skype

Okay, it’s not coming out till this summer.
It is pretty much internet tv. Only there are real channels on it not any body’s crap like youtube. It’s also free, and there is supposed to be tons of stuff within a year.
I would love to see a dedicated unicycling channel and a dedicated juggling channel. unicycle.tv should try to hook up with them.
But I signed up for a beta version about a month ago, and they just emailed me saying I’m in!!
I can’t wait to use it.
In the request form it asked why they should let me use the beta of joost, and so I told them I am a member of the unicycling community and would tell you guys all about it.
So here I am telling you all about it.
Go sign up now!
www.joost.com
It’s pronounced Juiced, sorta like on 'roids, which would make since, since after all it is tv on 'roids.
It says I could choose anyusername I want!! Maybe I should get nick, since its so new and only in beta now. I think I will stick with habbywall though.

Habby send me an invite!!!

I wish I could, but you have to sign up on there site.
Anyways, I just found out its only for intel macs, thats crap, I will instal it on my stepdads macbook tommorrow.

double crap…

:frowning: i actually brought my TV to sarcan last weekend because it was a piece of crap and not worth watching. it would be nice to watch TV on my laptop but it is a G4. I guess that means i will have less distractions the eh.
Less TV and more UNI of me.

I’m wondering what kind of resolution the channels will appear in, and what codec they’ll use to transmit the video. Most of the videos on youtube / google video / etc. are compressed beyond recognition. It gives me a headache to watch more than three minutes of such video.

Free TV is nice and all, but if it only looks good on a 3" screen, why would anyone want to watch it?

I won’t lie, the quality isn’t the greatest. But I haven’t been watching for to long. I already saw some guiness world records and was just watching part of two-a-days. But the quality can be good as it seems to come and go.
I’m not sure how they compress it or what.
But I must say. For not having cable, I love it.
Later tonight we will probably hook it up to our tv and I will tell you how it looks from there.
There are quite a bit of channels on it now. But not alot of shows on all the channels. But it is pretty much the same as cable. And I can’t wait to see how many more channels come as it gets closer to free public release.
As for invites, it says that I can invite people, but it says I don’t have any invites available.

Edit: But, I must say, I love the interface, it is extremely easy to get used to and very easy to navigate.

Okay, I tried it out on a real tv. Hooked the laptop up and watched the first episoda of two-a-days. The quality was amazing. Not HD but definitly better than youtube. Except when things got going fast it wasn’t as good.
My name on there is habbywall. So yeah.
I also just found out there is a circus channel, so I am going to go watch that now.

I’ve had it for a while, its pretty cool though I don’t generally watch TV anyhow. The quality is really good, both video and audio. Theres some cool shows on the National Geographic channel

Whats your username?

Actually, I don’t remember so now I cant log in. It used to save it for me but it got erased when I updated it.

I don’t understand how you sign up…how do you sign up?

Go to www.joost.com and ask to become a beta tester.

Says I need someone to invite me…anyone?

Really, that’s odd. I tried to invite wickedbob. But I don’t have any invites.
Sorry.

well that software sucks. it wont install on win2k but will on XP. bit of a big bug considering both os’s are pretty much 99% the same.

However it actually works fine in wine… but thats another story as i hate that rubbish anwyays and will refuse to run such rubbish such as joost.

Hey, I’ve got Joost and can give invites to any of you that want it. Just send me a PM with your email address, or just post it here. I’ll check back. I like it a lot, especially because I don’t have TV here and there’s some interesting programming, documentaries and such.

I want an invite!

Felix, the invite has been sent. Enjoy. The invites are unlimited so anyone else, feel free.

I’d really appreciate an invite, if thats ok. richard(dot)uni[at]gmail(dot)com
