i do believe it is you that speedsolves rubiks cubes could you please politly instruct me on how to solve the last layer?i dont understand it at all. and where you can get a good cube for speedsolving?
thanks if you respond
suuuure thing!
first of all, are you doing it all yourself, or using some instructions, or what…?
basically, for the last layer, you need to memorize a bunch of sequences of moves to be able to move individual pieces around without disturbing any other pieces.
here’s a website with a very good beginners method for the rubiks cube:
http://www.geocities.com/jasmine_ellen/RubiksCubeSolution.html
if you have everything except for the last layer, then you’ll want to read this part in particular:
http://www.geocities.com/jasmine_ellen/RubiksCubeSolution.html#last-layer
I am (as you can probably tell) not james potter. However I can solve rubiks cubes, just not very fast. I Could probably show someone how to solve the last layer, but can’t explain it in text. As to where to get a good speed solving cube, just use a normal cube alot, and maybe buy a lubrication kit. At least untill you are quite fast, concentrating more on few moves, rather than speed, would make more of a difference in time. Search on the inrernet, there is probably a good explanation somewnere.
oh yeah, forgot to tell about the best speedcube…like sevenasterisks said, just a normal Rubiks-brand cube works best. You can either get one at a toy store, or like a Wal*Mart, or at http://rubiks.com. once you get good at it, you’ll want to oil it with silicone spray so you can move it faster and easier, but first you should concentrate on just being able to solve it (;
PS how fast can you solve it, sevenasterisks?
it usually takes me about 4 minutes to solve, but I still use a really slow method (I only know about 4 algorithms to use on the last layer), and I haven’t practiced much in a long time . by the way do you know how to solve a 4x4x4? I know all but one step, so I can only solve it about 50% of the time, but I find solving other puzzles more fun than working on just solving a basic rubiks cube as fast as possible.
I SOLVED IT!!! i had used that page earlier but i never understood the last layer part, now i completly understand it!!! it was so cool!!
yep now im gonna try to actually memorize all that stuff
okay, i get the rest of the cube now but i cant get the permuting the edges, cause always on that site it messes me up, like it was fine then it screws up the whole cube, could you please explain what im doing wrong, or point to different discriptions?
I used to do some speecubing, and got under a minute at my best, but havent solved in a while now. I used the tried and true Lars Petrus Method.
I used a speed cubing tutorial to solve the cube once. It was a web site that took you step by step through a speed cubing solution. It was some variation of the Lars Petrus method. It’s fascinating the way the speed cubing solutions work. You’re not necessarily solving layer by layer but rather quadrant by quadrant and you’re not just moving one cube around at a time.
I know how to solve the cube but I just move one little piece around at a time. Not efficient. Not at all like the speed cubing solves. I’ve never solved the cube in under a minute.
People interested in cubing should try working through a speed cubing solution just to see how it all comes together. It’s amazing.
My claim to fame is learning how to solve the cube without ever cheating and looking at a solution. It’s a really inefficient method but I still remember the moves to do it. Once you get the first face and the corners all you do is repeat the same algorithm (or a mirror image of the algorithm) over and over till the cube is solved. It worked. Not surprisingly I’ve never seen my method in any published solution.
After I learned my method I looked at some solutions and learned how to solve it faster and more efficiently.
My method invovles removing and replacing all the sitckers
Same here, or you can do the faster way and brake the pieces apart and squish them back together in the right order.
yeah, Spencer’s way of taking it apart is better than taking the stickers off…it’s better for the cube too.
anyway,
well, make sure you’re holding the cube the right way. and make sure that you’re doing each separate move correctly. sometimes doing the B or D face is confusing and can mess you up, but make sure you’re doing it the right way.
i like that petrous method but i dont understand step three, could someone please help explain it to me?
I used to use Lars Petrus’ method, and eventually I got my average with it to 21 seconds. But I found a new method, invented by Gilles Roux, that I liked better.
Well, the Petrus method is a pretty advanced speedcubing method…I say you should learn the simple layer by layer you’re working on now, and when you are able to solve it every time, you can maybe find a new method like the Petrus to improve your times.
The Petrus method there on that site is what I followed when I did a very slow walk-through of a speed cubing solution. I was amazed at how it all fell together.
