IUF Skill Levels...

Hi !

I am quite new to unicycle and I had a look at the 10 IUF levels. My goal
is to be able to do some MUni and Trials next summer (for now, I can ride
for miles, hop on the spot, jump on and off curbs, etc.).

I was just wondering if I should follow the IUF progression pattern… I’d
rather work on trials stuff, hopping, idling, etc. than triyng to mount
the uni 3 different ways or riding stomach on seat, etc. Are the latter
related to MUni anyway ? I know that some abilities like wheel walking,
idling, etc. will help me in the future though…

Thanks a lot !

When I don’t have any new tricks to work on, I’ll turn to the skill levels
to see what I should try next. I don’t necessarily try to learn every
trick in a skill, or learn one skill before going to the next, but in
general, the skill levels progress in difficulty at a reasonable pace.

Now, if muni and trials is what you want to do, find some trails to
ride, or obstacles to hop on and over. Whatever you work on is what
you’ll get good at.

I would say, just do what you enjoy most. If you are into trials and muni,
then just start riding off road! Enjoy yourself. At NUC, I met a bunch
off-roaders who focus on trials and muni. Skill levels are fun (and
everything you try makes you a better rider), but if you are having more
fun off road, I say go for it.

One neat thing about skills and freestyle: you can figure tricky things
out on a 20." Once you know that you can do something on a 20," it’s less
of a stretch to do it on a muni. Seldom happens the other way around.

Don’t get hung up on the skills. Just pick and choose what you enjoy
and what’s helpful. I rode for ten years without knowing the skill
levels existed.
