IUF Rules for UNICON IX

Hey, it sounds like we’ve already got some great suggestions flying back and
forth for improvements to the IUF Rulebook. I’d like to start forming a list of
points that need to be clarified, improved or added. This includes the things
we’ve discussed over the last few days, things that were mentioned at UNICON (or
NUC), things that people still don’t like from the last round of changes, and
anything else.

We have four main categories of rules areas:

  1. Racing
  2. Freestyle
  3. Standard Skill (and the Standard Skills List, which will be handled
    separately)
  4. Games (Hockey, Basketball and any others)

I think it would be nice if people, when submitting ideas, divided them into
these four groups to keep them easy to track and find.

There have been suggestions that we can make some small changes to the Standard
Skills List without changing the rest. This is a possibility, but I think that
if we are going to go in there and make any changes at all, thereby separating
our list from all past competitions, we might as well do it properly and fix all
problem areas. We can definitely add clarifications to the existing Standard
Skills List without changing the list or point values, and that is another
possible approach fo us at this time.

To handle this, we will need a committee head who will make sure that things
keep moving. We can use both regular mail and email, but need not limit
ourselves to passing all messages by regular mail. People without email will be
notified that they may not be able to participate fully.

I will maintain a master list, divided by category, of rule areas that need
work. I do not remember all (or even most) of the suggestions that were verbally
made at NUC and UNICON, so make sure your pet peeves get included on the list.
Please submit your ideas now.

If you or anyone you know would like to be involved in the IUF Skill Levels and
Rules Committee, please contact me.

Again, apologies for including this message to both groups.

Personally, I don’t think the Artistic Rules need many changes. just the
updating to include the new skills and the clarifications that I have mentioned.
The idea of the Judge Meeting can be tried, on an experimental way before it is
implemented.

If you have anything about unicycle hockey (group 4) please don’t forget to send
me a copy of your suggestion.
