so i downloaded some song on itunes and im trying to put them on my archos but i put them on there and it says the file cant be played cus its M4P so how do you convert it to normal, whether its using itunes or “My Music”
Due to the fact that you bought it from itunes, I’m not sure if you can change the format too easily - however, I’m sure there is some kind of nifty file converter out there for you. Because I’m kind, i’ll have a quick look for you and come back if I find anything.
You can convert it to MP3 in Itunes, but can’t remember exactly how. Go to advance and hit “convert” and all the different formats should pop up. M4P I believe is CD format…
yes thats it exatly thanks, i dont wanna download it cus i dont have a virus protector
i did that and the only option is to “convert to AAC” so i clicked that and it says it cant do it cus “proteted profiles cant be converted”
Don’t trust me if you don’t want to, but I can tell you that it does not have a virus.
If it’s from Itunes then it should work with your Ipod. Why do you want to convert it?
cus i have an ipod shuffle but i dont like it cus it doesnt have a screen
ill trust you, but later im not on my computer right now i will when mine is fixed
You can just use the converter in iTunes to convert to mp3 and it’ll keep all your tags intact
just go into edit->preferences->advanced->click the “importing” tab->import using mp3 encoder, choose your bitrate, then apply the changes
then just select all the .m4a files in your library click advanced->convert selection to .mp3
it dumps all the files into folders by artist then album so it’s easy to keep track and then you can just delete the original files
FUCK APPLE and fuck their litlte monopoly. If you pay for an album it should be yours to use how you want. I cant stand that the music I buy I cant use on anything but an apple product. Having to burn to cd and re-rip is by far the biggest waist of plastic time and money. I will surly search for torrents and steal the music I wont over giving apple my business anymore.
sorry for my language… I am very upset right now.
No need to apologize. More people need to come to the same realization with the same kind of emotion backing up that realization. Let’s hope that others come to the same realization, and not just about iTunes but also the loudness war.
I will never buy an iTunes song. I don’t currently have an iPod but will likely get one soon. But even if I did have an iPod I wouldn’t want to tie my music to a single player. What happens in 10 years when that iPod has worn out and I’ve moved on to some other player? It is very shortsighted to tie your music to a single manufacturer or any kind of DRM system.
I’ve had a rant brewing in my head for about 5 years all about how the music industry is screwing itself over and has only itself to blame for sagging sales and sagging interest. One of these days I’ll put that rant fully into words.
Music is an emotional thing. Its success is tied to emotion and how it makes you feel and how it draws you in. The music industry is killing that emotion and punishing its customers. It is no wonder that you have strong feelings about it given how music is so tied to emotion.
I feel your pain, I hate apple.
Thats why I am changing the firmware as soon as possible when/if I ever get an iPod. Im sure you have had your share with plenty of standard usb mp3 players. Plug in, computer sees it as a hard drive, and you copy files into the right folder, then unplug it.
Easy to delete the songs off without all that syncing stuff that will delete them from your comp too. Easy to add anything from any computer.
Yeah, thats nice.
Thats mainly why ive never used iTunes or have been interested in a iPod. I was interested in their layout, but once messing with that, I came to not like it. Arrange by genre just separates all the songs randomly, as with all the other ways have messed up the music on there, instead of putting it: Band name - cd title - track number - track name, which is how I prefer it.
I did like the little games on the iPod though, but that probably isnt good that my favorite part of an mp3 player is its games.
MP3 players or custom firmware that allow you to drag music directly to the device as if it’s an external drive can also have hidden gotchas. Some have limits on how long the filenames can be or what characters are allowed.
I have my files named by “artist - album - track number - title”. Some of the filenames get to be 128+ characters long. That’s too long for some MP3 players. Plus some use extended characters (foreign characters in track names) or other characters that some MP3 players just don’t like.
