I don’t think anybody watches grammer rock these days.
Hey, I like rock music, but I can’t stand any rock solos more than 30 secs. It’s cool that this guy can play in harmonics and hammer out all kinds of arpeggios, but it just gets boring when it drags out into several minutes. Its even worse when the rest of the band just stops playing. Is it still music, or just a demonstration of techniques? I can’t say.
Jazz players can riff for days without losing my interest. Why? They don’t geek out on playing technique. They improvise by exploiting scales and chords, timing and phrasing… and coming up with a melody on the fly, not a cacophony.
Let’s hear some great jazz bassists… d’ya know any?

Well, Billy’s part of that cadre of hair metal dudes with really long finger-mashing chromatic solos (i.e. Eddie Van Halen for guitar, etc.). Not my favorite style, but fun to watch. Billy has also hosted workshops and other events teaching “tasteful” solos and groove-playing, and claimed he’s trying to undo all the damaged he caused in the 80s…
