is freestyle dead......

freestyle riding seems to be a thing of the past an “old school” form of unicycling trials and muni seem to be shadowing it.this is in the uk anyway the only freestyle now seems to be to make a trials line harder,or on top of some bench or something i think that trials/muni/street seem like the cool types of unicycling now the gallery is full of trials now.i admit i like watching freestyle and trials but find muni boring to watch it is loads of fun to do but boring to watch any one else finding this?

I like to do some freestyle stuff too. I want to be at least level 6 within the next year (probably won’t happen) and be able to do some extra for that too. I like MUni a lot more but still freestyle is nice looking for those who don’t ride theirselves. It would be embarrasing if somebody asked me to ride backwards (which I can’t do too well yet:() or idle for a while and I couldn’t do it. No one won’t probably ask me to do a unispin but it would be nice to be able to show some skills.

Of course freestyle is not dead! It’s just that most of the freestyle don’t go out and make as many videos of themselves. Well that’s my opinion anyway. I’ve recently been getting into freestyle a bit more and am planning ot make myself a really nice freestyle uni (see my last thread).

As for finiding muni boring to watch, I think you must be watching the wrong people. Find a copy of One Tired Guy, watch it, and then tell me muni is boring to watch!

There are a lot of freestyle riders. There just aren’t many who post on here. I went to the NAUCC this summer and there were many amazing freestyle unicyclists. Many more than there were trials riders. Some of the freestyle unicyclists did Muni but not many did both trials and freestyle.

Yeah this forum is kinda biased, most of the people here are Muni guys or Road riders and the number of freestyle guys is limited. Alot of people ride more than one to be well rounded.

I think a reason for this is partially due to freestyle riders having already established clubs that they go to. Where as there are not too many Muni clubs are out there.

Just a thought.

when you see universe 2 you’ll be wondering why you asked this question.

Freestyle is not dead?

I’m gonna fire that hitman…

maybe with me it is,ive been thinking of selling mine for a couple days.

i have seen universe and one wheel noe limit i don’t mind watching a little muni but mainly if it is “natural trials”. i say “is freestyle dead” not just because there are few vid’s but also because i know no freestylers.but i do enjoy it, a bit one wheel riding ect,i think that trials and muni are taking over because they are much easier to get into as all you have to do is hop,i know you have to be good to do amazing stuff.

There are plenty of basic freestyle skills to learn though.

Andrew

no way!

freestyle is not dead! i love freestyle probably equally as much as trials. i love learning to do freestyle tricks, unicycle conventions in the UK are full of freestylers who are into other forms of unicycling as well. i just dont think its as well publicized, i mean not as many vids are made of it and it is less appealing to non-riders but it is still great fun.

japan has more unicyclists than anywhere and they all do freestyle i think some of them to an amazingly high standard.

i do think muni can be ever so slightly boring to watch but i still love watching it, and when i get the chance i love riding it aswell.

Re: no way!

I would argue the “less appealing to non-riders” part… it can’t be just me who has “Show us a trick!” shouted in my direction often. I’d love to have some decent freestyle moves to show off with…

Phil

look back over my post again, i think you’re missing something…

UNIVERSE 2

i think your missing something

it’s not out in the uk!!!

Hey Guys!
Freestyle is the main thing I like to do and that is the case in pretty much all of Minnesota. Freestyle will never be dead because it keeps getting better and more and more cool skills are being developed.

haha, it’s not out here either dude!

like i said befire, when you see it.

Re: Re: no way!

i agree that it is great to show off freestyle moves and they are very impressive to non-riders however i think non-riders will be impressed at most things on a unicycle such as hopping onto a small wall. what i meant by it is “less appealing” to non-riders is that more and more new riders join the sport because they like the look of trials and/or Muni. i think that less people, nowadays, start unicycling for freetyle purposes.

i still think freestyle is great, and i agree that freestyle tricks are the most faesable way of impressing non-riders of all ages not just trials wannabees.

hope i explained my point properly

I enjoy all sorts of unicycling, but right now I am heavy into giraffe freestyle for my circus school audition, and people (in charlotte) seem more impressed when I’m doing freestyle on a giraffe than if i’m doing freestyle on a standard 20"-- if on the latter, people normally look at me like i’m some punk kid tearing up the sidewalks (not that there’s anything wrong with punk kids tearing up the sidewalks) as opposed to an athelete and a performer.

what is considerred a ‘freestyle trick’?

wheelwalking and unispins etc…?

what are the popular (or coolest looking) ones?

i usually refer to freestyle tricks as “flatground tricks”
