I don’t mean the usenet, but the physical part of Fido? Like, do you still have nods and BBSes and modems and stuff like that? Does anyone here use it? RSU is from Fido, isn’t it?
Not sure I understand the question. Can you repeat it in English?
You just had to go and do it!
Ruin my zero replies thread! From now on, it’s war!
Yup, looks like Fido is still sitting up…
Don’t tease the poor guy, give him a treat already!
Despite my age I know what you’re talking about.
To answer your question… have a look at http://www.fidonet.org/!
If your age is 19… how do you know the FidoNet?
And yes, there is still “nods and BBSes and modems and stuff”.
Secret services, terroristic organizations and cyber-anarchists still communicate sometimes that way, trough nods at tropical locations (like Thailand) or other wierd places (like Sealand, that currently is for sale).
So what triggered your interest again?
Hehe.
I know it’s a name of an old computer and I even remember reading about it, but with my crapppy memory I forget all the details.
That wiki article certainly sheds a lot of light on the subject.
I know Fido because I have read heaps of Fido folklore. I find it very amusing.
I used to be a “point” some time ago and exchange heaps of mails with friends.
Then some companies started to provide cheaper and broader internet access and well, I quitted, but a few of my friends are still having fun with Fido. Just for the sake of keeping it alive.
