I find unicycling to be a pretty expensive hobby. Recently I’ve considering upgrading my unicycle, but I’ve crunched the numbers and the best way for me to do it is slowly replace out the parts when I come in to money, which isn’t often, especially now that I’m one of those “poor college students.”
How does everybody do it? Or does it just seem like everybody can get the coolest new stuff because I can’t?
I really dont think its bad at all in the scheme of things.
For instance, the fork alone on a comparable mountain bike to a KH24 would cost as much as the KH24. I spend about $100 a month on records. The turntables were about as much as a KH20.
Yeah, its expensive, but not nearly as bad as other things.
I have supplied money for my unicycling by selling off stuff from previous hobbies and generaly things I don’t use as often like gaming systems, hording cash from holidays, and getting odd jobs here and there, I funded a good part of my trials uni by typing up some documents that were only available in print.
i uh… wait for people to give me money… and then i buy stuff… or i work and pay for stuff… so far i have only bought whole unicycles, and they are great. unicycling is not very expensive at all… try ski racing…THATS an expensive hobby
since you’re from Cancda, talk to Darren Bedford at Bedford Unicycles in Toronto, and stop by his place around Halloween. Anyone who’s been there can tell you he’s got some wild Halloween thing going on!!
But he’s got great unis at a fair price, and he’s very helpful.
I also recommend buying quality the first time, so you don’t get costly repairs. My Yuni 29" is doing me great lasting a LONG time, lots of miles,as is my Coker with minor upgrades like UDC hub, comfy seat, seat handle. I weigh 190 pounds, so I need to get strong stuff.
I have a summit frame with the alex rim, luna tire, KH post and seat…and hub I think too. Primo pedals and I forgot what the cranks were. I bought it used and I can’t remember the whole setup. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a sweet setup, but it’s old and beat to hell. It has a weird clicking problem on the downstrokes too. Always has.
