*Is* a unicycle a bicycle?

I did a little roundup of states I’m likely to unicycle in

Ohio: specifically not a bike
Pennsylvania: law uses the term pedalcycle, which appears to include us. Helmets mandatory for riders under 12 unless they have a note from a “church authority” that helmets are against their religion.
NY: Not a bike
Alabama: Not a bike
MN: not a bike
Wisconsin: not a bike. Definition of play vehicle specifically says unicycle

Trying to work out if this is real or a joke. Both seem equally plausible.

(b.3) Exemption.– This section shall not apply to a child under 12 years of age who can produce a statement from the family’s church authorities attesting that it is against the tenets of the family’s religion to wear a helmet.

It’s real. It’s a good thing that helmets aren’t mandatory for everyone or I would have had to get a note from @unigoat to go on my last MUni ride because I forgot my helmet

I always wanted to write a humorous sketch lampooning this argument “against the tenets of a religion” how far could this principle go? (this is what I call the “Aïkido practice”: when someone has that sort of principle stretch it to the maximum until something strange appears even to its supporters)

That’s good to know.
If one didn’t like helmets, you could maybe get ordained as a dudeist priest, and claim that.

Heck you could probably claim riding two wheeed cycles is against your religion too

I think the Pastafarians have covered this pretty well.
