Just bought the 1 gig nano, and after installing the Itunes software, I CANNOT figure out HOW to “simply” transfer songs from my CDs to the Ipod. I have an ACER laptop not more than a year old, so I know it’s compatable. It seems to only let me “import” music from my CDs to the COMPUTER, but NOT the Ipod! I run WinXP, and have the necessary hardware/software requirements. Also, if I ever DO get this thing to DL songs, will the song titles automatically be in the nano, or will I have to “input” all that crap too? This little nano is a major PAIN IN THE BEHIND!
You have to download the CDs to your computer then copy them to the iPod. As long as you’re connected to the internet when you put in the CD it should find the song names automatically so they’ll show up on the iPod.
take the auto-update off also (in your ipod options in itunes) cauz it will erase all ur songs…
… and no-one believed me when I said Mac was the spawn of Satan.
yeah, rip the cds first. if you’ve already done that, um, i got nothing.
Auto-update is fine, unless you work with songs other than what you have in your own copy of iTunes.
The iPod does not do any file manipulation. All of this happens in iTunes. Go into the iTunes preferences area, and there are settings for ripping your CDs. You can set it so that whenever you load a music CD, it will automatically rip it to iTunes and then eject it. This is very handy if you’re doing a mass ripping job.
iTunes is the database, where all your tweaking and playlist-creation takes place. The iPod is just a copy of your music database, but static when on there. All the changes happen on the computer.
This is not obvious to many new iPod owners, but once you figure this out most of the rest makes sense.
For mawesome: iPods are not Macs. They do not run MacOS. Most owners of iPods are Windows users.
