HOURS AND HOURS OF ERRORS AND SOLUTION FINDING, I STILL CAN"T PUT MUSIC ON MY NEW IPOD AND IT"S BUGGING ME…
On my laptop I try and install iTunes 8 but for some stupid reason it can’t copy new files to this weird folder. A solution is meant to be to run a disk check. So what I did is tried to peform this check. It was meant to check the disk when it rebooted which I did, but the disk check didn’t run so i quit…
On the old computer I’ve installed iTunes 8 but when i plug in my iPod…guess what? It doesn’t appear or recognise it so I can’t put songs on it!
And my friend got an ipod nano like me and his things worked perfectly!
I need iPod users help or someone who has come across any iPod errors or knows where I can get help…
You need to be a bit more specific when you say it is having problems with a “weird folder” - what is the folder? There is a possibility that if you’re using windows that you are using a restricted user account which means you can’t install most software (to check go into control panel and into ‘user accounts’ - it might be called something else but something to do with the users, if you find that you are a “Limited user” in this part of control pannel then you need administrator rights to install the iTunes).
What version of Windows or MAC OSX are you using?
Little bits of information like that are very useful for anyone trying to figure out what is wrong.
I’d like to point out you do not need to use iTunes to upload songs to your iPod. For example Winamp (http://www.winamp.com) has built in iPod support. You could try that.
Chances are though that something is setup wrong on your computer, you can try to see if your computer can actually see your iPod by forcing (your iPod) it into disk mode (http://www.ipodwizard.net/wiki/index.php/Forced_Disk_Mode) whilst plugged into your computer and then seeing if the device is visable as a drive (In my computer and in device manager).
Hope this is some help.
You might also have more luck with a forum more specialised to this sort of thing, iPod wizard forums (google it) are likely to be helpful.
Sounds like he’s having trouble with iTunes. Haven’t got to the iPod part yet. But if software won’t install, there might be an underlying problem with the PC/Mac/Linux device, such as a limited user account as JC mentioned. Try downloading a fresh copy of iTunes from Apple. Ignore the one on the CD that came with your Pod. See what happens then. For further help, tell us at least a little about your computer so we can give meaningful advice.
I mention this because that is what worked for me. I had everything working with iTunes 7. Upgraded to iTunes 8 and the iPod was no longer recognized when I plugged it in. I had installed only the parts of iTunes 8 that I thought were necessary, ignoring the useless things like Bonjour. I finally decided to just install everything included with iTunes 8, rebooted the computer and everything suddenly worked.
I don’t use iTunes to sync the iPod. I use J. River Media Center. It is still necessary to install iTunes to get the USB driver for the iPod and apparently some other critical bits of support software. I have no idea why Bonjour and the other junk would be needed but it seems to be.
iTunes does install a USB driver. To install the USB driver will require that you install using an account that isn’t restricted.
But yeah, sounds like something else is interfering. Hopefully you’re using a Mac, iTunes kinda sucks on Windows… I put Rockbox on my 1st-Gen Nano, so I just drag & drop music on it now.
