Introduction for a South African

I consider it polite to introduce myself before randomly engageing in conversation, on or offline:)

My name is Johnny, and I am a 20 yr old student living in Cape Town, in sunny South Africa. I started uni-ing a few weeks ago, and am eagerly awaiting a 20inch no-name brand from up country (Joburg). I have a mate at varsity who is a competant rider and is getting fed up with me taking his uni every weekend.

I spin poi, twirl a staff, juggle random objects that come in groups of 3, make noise on my guitar and study a bit. Water polo and squash are my regular sports. I doubt many people are interested in “my favourite food” or “ideal night” - you can ask me privately if you are really keen!

There don’t seem to be many South Africans around here (GILD, are you the only active SA member?). Hopefully may mates attempt to start a uni club at varsity will help get a few more people signed up and contributing.

If you ever pop down to Cape Town for a trip, drop me a PM. hopefully I will be riding with less wobble, have a bike of my own and have scouted out some appropriate MUni trails (give me a few more years!). It would be great other people with a uni interest.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forums! Hope to see you around more often…

Welcome to the forums!
I have a Capetown T-shirt and friends from Johannesburg, plus I can speak with south african accent sometimes. I uni too(surprise!).

On a more personal subject, what is your favourite food and ideal night? Are they related with each other?

If you ever come to Cyprus, don’t hesitate to PM me and we can do some trials together! South African people are very nice people(mostly) and since you are South African you fall into the category.

ps. Do you play cricket?

GILD is from johannsburg.

I know, I should ask him his street, so that I can know if it’s far from my friends’ places.

Welcome to the forum.

That’s one more of us and one less of them.

Pretty much, I try n pick up the slack for everyone else.

That will be brilliant.
You must get some UniHoki (unicycle hockey) going down there.
We’re playing regularly up here and are just itching for some serious competition.
One of our regulars’ brother played with is for a couple of weeks while he was on holiday from Cape Town recently.
He’s quite keen to get something going in Cape Town and has a rink lined up already.
So unless your name is Byron or your friend’s name is Byron, I’ll get his detail to you and get the two of you together.

Isn’t Jayne from SA?

Yeah, as is Shaun and Niall who have all posted here.

Thank you all for the welcomes!

Ivan: My favourite time to eat my favourite food is on my ideal night.

I played cricket in junior school. My brother used to be a frustratingly good cricket player. I decided to give him his little moment of glory and took up hockey. he then became a frustratingly good (field) hockey player, so I took up juggling-type things. Which is nice, because he plays in foreign countries and can bring me back juggling toys without me paying tax:p If I come along your way, I’ll certainly drop you a PM!

GILD: My friend is Dylan. Send me Byrons details, if he consents, asseblief. It would be nice if he has a few unicycling mates already. In fact, if you know any other Cape unicyclists, let me know. I’ll try get them together.

WOFT,

Make sure you pay this thread a visit. We’d love your input.

Welkom!

Bruce

Hoi, en welkom!

Doet mij afvragen of jij dan ook een vaste bezoeker bent van eenwiel.nl?

I think I might be in SA for a few weeks next summer (winter for you guys), near Cape Town.

June/July-ish?

Send word closer to the time.
I’m up in JHB but might be able to twist my own rubber arm to head down to Cape Town for a celebratory game of UniHoki, and a beer/cup of coffee with DK (depending on legal drinking age requirements and all those fancy bits).
I’m really hoping the Cape Town guys will be able to get something together.

Yoopers: I’ll get something on there over the weekend. Great idea!

Leo: My dutch isn’t up to scratch (they looked at me funny when I was in holland. It may have been the way i looked, but I tell myself it must have bean my incomprehensible mumbles in afrikaans!). I can manage my way the website, but probably won’t be taking part in many discussions!

DK - That sounds like a good plan! Send word closer to the time, as GILD says. You plan on bringing your uni?

GILD - Come down in any case and help get us started:D
