Internet fraud

Thinking about it now it seems more like a mistake.

I never take this particular card out I just use the account to pay the direct debit bills and occassional internet purchase.

The only possible way for it to be fraud is for it to be connected to the suspect email.

And if it wasn’t for the second attempt to use the card (for £5.50!!!) which the online company bounced back because they thought it was dodgy I would by now be convinced it was a mistake.

I have ofcourse, cancelled the card, informed the bank and police, run my antivirus and anti spyware software and nothing is showing up as amiss.

I’m just a bit worried that there might be something lurking on my computer ready to strike if I make another online purchase. Would there be a way of finding this out or would the virus & anti-spyware stuff have picked it up?

Can’t really help a great deal on that one. My days of doing hand to hand close combat with viruses, etc are long gone. They were good fun times though. These days I just ensure everything is set up to automatically update the defences and stand well back, especially as these days it is not supposed to be my job to maintain the departmental servers and PCs. A shame my boss is not reading that.

In the old days there were certainly malevolent entities that, if established earlier during the boot sequence than the anti-virus program, were able to dodge around its checks, and were therefore effectively immune. I am not up to speed these days with the more modern types of infection.
It was always a principle to ensure there was no infection before loading the A-V software. It still seems a good idea.
