Isn’t unicyclist.com enough? Why do people want to go on another platform, owned by Meta?

I guess a lot of people are too used to using that type of platform. It’s definitely useful for getting results/information there and then which worked during Unicon but if you don’t look at the right time, things get buried and are hard to find again. At the same time, WhatsApp is like getting text messages, unless you manage/mute group notifications it wants your attention immediately to look at something (which is kinda ugh).
@Eric_aus_Chemnitz went into details on platforms in his talk. To communicate with the most unicyclists, the same information has to be posted on multiple different platforms formatted in a way that makes sense on the specific platform. While it would be great if the forums saw an active resurgence, I think that ship sailed in 2009ish when Facebook added features that killed off most PHPbb forums…

I agree. But it’s also kind of necessary in a way. Most people are accustomed to texting, and while this forum isn’t dying at all, it’s good to have another central meeting messaging point for riders. Also, there are a lot of people not here, or never heard of it, but WhatsApp is easy

Whatsapp now introduced UserNames, to keep your phone numbers private. Once everybody has shifted to usernames, they are also more easily recognised. Most members of the uni group only show as phone numbers.
Personally though, i chose to use my real name on Whatsapp rather than Setonix, as I use it with family and colleagues.
I suppose for get-togethers and quick messages Whatsapp works better than the forum, but at the same time these things are more quiet in NL, so I will still be more active on the forum.
