I had a funny experience today involving one of New York’s Finest.
I was Cokering legally up 12th Avenue around 48th St. (off the part of the
bike path currently inaccessible due to WTC activity) when a cop car
squelched at me and one of the officers motioned for me to pull over. I
knew I’d done nothing wrong (I was even wearing a helmet) so I had a
feeling it was about the uni. Sure enough, one of them wanted to know
about unicycling, and before long we’d exchanged e-ddresses and he had
become the newest member of the NYC Unatics Club. I just thought it was a
funny way to get introduced.

David, I was once pulled over by a cop, too while riding a trail in my
city. (I was not wearing a helmet but PA laws don’t require it for my
age.) Anyway he said to me, “Did you know that you were doing 10 in a 7
mph zone?” Just kidding Actually he wanted to know if I had seen a
Latino male of medium build riding a bicycle. I almost laughed at him
because I had probably seen six or seven Latino males that fit his
description!
