Intense tube

A little over a month ago I accomplished what I thought would never happen. I
got a pinch flat with my big Gazzaloddi 26x3 tire. I’m actually impressed that I
managed to do it because it means that I was riding more aggressively. I just
wish I knew what hit actually did the damage. As pinch flats go this one was
really wimpy. It didn’t even manage to bite all the way through the tube. It was
just enough of a bite to cause a very very slow leak. I didn’t even notice the
leak until the day after it happened. Bummer.

An unfortunate story but it was educational and that’s the point of this post. I
was using a Duro 3" tube. After getting the pinch flat with the Duro tube I
wanted to find a thicker tube. I went to The Downhill Zone (a bike shop in
Seattle that specializes in downhill bikes) and asked them what was the best
tube to use in the Gazz 26x3 tire. They recommended the Intense 2.7 tube. I was
a bit surprised because thick tubes usually don’t like to be inflated past their
recommended size and I had always assumed that the Intense 2.7 tube would not
work well in the 3" Gazz. But the Intense 2.7 has no problems fitting in the 3"
Gazz (it helps that the 3" Gazz is actually less than 3" wide). Cool. Even with
the Intense tube inflated enough for the 3" Gazz it is still thicker than the
Duro, Nokian and IRC 3" tubes. I’ve been using the Intense 2.7 tube for over a
month and it is doing great.

So the point of all this is that the Intense 2.7 tube will fit in the 26x3 Gazz
and works great. Those of you who don’t have a 26x3 Gazz are saying so what, but
for the few that are fortunate enough to have the big Gazz this is a good nugget
of knowledge.

Re: Intense tube

Just last weekend, I got my first ever flat in a 24x3 Gazz - I thought it was
virtually impossible (I keep inflation higher than you, around 30psi, so don’t
expect pinch flats). The cause was a >1cm long thorn that went in right between
the knobs…about 6 other thorns were in the tire, but didn’t make it through.
