Innertube seat pad - Mmmmmmm!!

I recently posted a message about how I tried replacing the foam pad in my
Miyata’s seat with a bicycle innertube. I have tested this on a couple of longer
rides since then (11 miles last weekend and 6 miles today) and the difference is
night-and-day. My endurance with the old pad was always limited more by
saddle-soreness than by leg fatigue, and anyway I was using much of my leg
strength trying to keep my weight off of the seat. The air-seat looks kind of
lumpy with the tube folded up inside, but it smooths itself out when you sit on
it and the ride is a very much more pleasant experience overall. Thanks again to
whomever came up with this idea. I would be interested in hearing about any
other peculiar padding materials that people have tried.

How much did you inflate the tube? And did you just take out the foam padding
altogether?

I took the foam pad out. If I can get some kind of seat cover for my CyclePro
20" then I might use the pad underneath to add more cushioning.

There isn’t enough pressure in the innertube to register on a tire-gauge; you
just inflate it until it feels good. I would think that if you were to put in
TOO much air then it might rip the seams on the seat cover.
