Hello cyclists,
Does anyone know the solution to my problem? I’m afraid I’ve been cycling too
much in cold and rainy weather. This has had a bad effect on my knees. How can I
cure this?

Re: injury
Vincent, My knee problems vastly improved when I began doing stretching
exercises several times a day. After the pain subsides add strength
exercises–you can go to a gym and ask them to show you which machines to use.
In addition, you might try wearing neoprene knee braces to keep your knees warm
and add some support. You might look into taking glucosamine/chondroitin
supplements–they are made out of sea-shells and cow wind-pipes and contain the
building blocks of cartilidge. These supplements have become mainstream in the
US with reputable companies (eg. One-a-Day and Advil) now marketing them. You
might also want to check your unicycle and make adjustments to the seat height
and crank length. If things don’t improve after trying some of these
suggestions, better see a doctor. Good luck!

Re: injury
Thanks for all the advice! I just went to the local drugstore but they didn’t
know what medicine contained glucosamine and chondroitin. Do you have the
name of it? A couple of days ago I visited the physical therapist who checked
the stability of my knees. He adviced me to do endurance training and not to
worry (but after that he asked me if he should trade in his 44-year old wife,
so I’m not too certain about this guy…) And I had already started drinking
some more milk.
You see, it all started when we were cycling to Lucerne. It was raining and not
too warm. You climb for a couple of km’s then wait on top for the slower people,
cool off and then descent for a couple of km’s cooling even more off and then
you start climbing again putting a lot of stress on the knees. I can’t believe I
did this…

Re: injury
You need to go to a health food store for Glucosamine Sulfate I think. On
occasion I’ve seen it at Costco but I’ve heard it’s not as good.
If you receive something that says “Send this to everyone you know” pretend you
don’t know me.

There is a brand name which I forget right now, but it’s available at Walmart,
ask the druggist.
