Info about our forum, a few Q's

Hello, Im Jeremy From NY. Been on a UNI for almost a week now and love it.
Just had a few Q’s about how things work so I can find out now before I rub anyone the wrong way (yes I read the Rules and Regs )

Just wondering who are our Mods and Admins?

What have people been banned for in the past and what type of activities are frowned upon around here?

I love this forum so want to make sure I keep things all Kosher with the Mods, Admins and Members but I do love to speak my mind :astonished:

Here is my progrees so far, there also are vids of each day of progress on my Youtube page

Welcome.

the Admin/Mod/Owner is Gilby

Pretty much anything goes as far as official rules are concerned that would get you banned, but keep in mind that this is a family forum, so excessive swearing and vulgarity is frowned upon. Just always be respectful and you won’t have any problems.

I would like to add to this - use the search functions, seriously, I always get told off by guys on the forums for not using it, so unless your like really urgent, just take a minute or two to use it.
Oh and don’t mess with the Maestro8. He will defeat you in humiliating ways you cannot imagine:o

Harper frowns upon smilies and polls.
Please don’t rub me the right or the wrong way, I’m not into that.
Pretty much don’t post webcams pointing at a 12 year olds bed and you shouldn’t get banned.

This

I was going to mention that.

both of those were exactly what I was going to say! Oh and to remember its a family forum, so no swearing etc.

Other than it, have fun lol

This is turning into a pretty good list of forum do’s and don’ts (the unofficial ones, that is). Officially there are very few rules but the community has its things it doesn’t seem to like. A brief summary of what’s been posted so far:

  • Polls are a feature of the site that almost nobody has ever used in a meaningful way. Please pretend the feature isn't there.
  • The forums are intended as a family-friendly environment, so please try to control your language and subject matter.
  • Pretty much every unicycling question has already been asked (many times) here, so play around with the Search controls if answers are what you're looking for. With some common subjects, such as which uni to buy, crank length and tire pressure, there are tons of threads and the people who posted the useful information in them are sometimes reluctant to do all that writing again for someone who could have just done some searching.
  • Certain people, like Maestro8, ThisGuyIKnow, Harper and others (maybe me) may give you a hard time about various things that are peeves for them. They perform a public service that others would probably do if they didn't so good for them. :)
And here are two more:
  • The first rule of creating new threads is: DON'T. The thread you were thinking of probably already exists. Find it and post there, so the information can stay together. For the most part, new users should not create new threads for that reason (this thread is a good one though). Just read for a while.
  • POST ON TOPIC. A good general rule for any forum site, in this case it's also a reminder to post about general unicycling stuff in rec.sport.unicycling, specific unicycling stuff in the other category forums, and mostly about non-unicycling stuff in here (Just Conversation).
  • And my own main peeve, USE MEANINGFUL THREAD TITLES. The Title line is the subject of the thread. It should be a short sentence, not one or two words. Your title should tell people what the thread is about, and also help people find it if they're using the Search like they should. A title like "Crank Length" is not good. A better one would be "What crank length do you recommend for 36" road riding on rolling hills?"

John, that is probably the worst reply I’ve ever seen you make. Sure its intentions were good. But you really didn’t need to seperate those last “two” from the previous section.
Maybe you had a reason behind it though?

Welcome to the forum. I won’t try to give you any more advice now that JohnFoss has, contrary to the opinion of some, oneposted an excellent reply.

Your doing great on the riding end of things. you’ve even managed to get quite a number of free mounts happening so your well on your way.

No one said that he made a bad post.
Yours on the other hand.

Invisible text is sometimes used. If you think there may be a hidden message, highlight as you read.

Who would use invisible text? Sounds like very immature thing to do to me.

I most certainly agree with you there

Examples of things you shouldn’t do that just irritate people who actually are looking for useful information in a thread

Yeah, leave invisible writing to random threads like TPBM and the invisible thread. Otherwise it is annoying and unnoticed by the people looking for the info.

Oh and text language is really annoying, its easier to read if its written correctly.

Thanks for the replies, my questions have been answered.

I don’t use profanity or anything like that, I am Intelligent, well educated and a pretty nice guy.
Just trying to head off anything before anyone gets mad for posting in the wrong section and such.
I thought this was a good way to get a bit of background and history of things I’ve missed before I got here.

What about posting a link to my online wine company in my sig?
(we verify that you are 21 or older and require adult signature at point of delivery) I would be happy to offer a coupon code to members here if interested.

yeah I’m sure that would be ok. There are loads of links to any random thing on here… a wine company is fine lol.

Sorry, we’re only interested in microbrews and single malt scotches here.

Really, I don’t think you’ll have any problem advertising in your sig. Lots of people do it, and those who are annoyed can turn off siglines in their user CP.
