Indoor Riding Spaces

Hey guys. I’ve been riding for some time now, and I still haven’t found a solution to this dilemma. I am largely a freestyle rider, and while a tennis court is fine most days, when it rains, anything which involves my foot on the tire is usually out of the question for practice sessions. With winter on the way, I am looking for a free or very cheap place I can ride most days a week. While I realize this is pretty location specific, I’d really like it if some of you could perhaps post where your juggling/uni club meets so I could get some ideas? I’m not quite sure where to go with this.

As of right now I’ve got plans to bring the unicycle (probably with me on it) to a few community centres around and see if they’ll let me ride in the mornings. Finding a large open space to use is surprisingly difficult.

Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

Maybe a school gymnasium, local YMCA, indoor skate rink(?)…

Most of the schools around here won’t even let visitors who aren’t part of the student body inside, let alone let them use the precious precious gym space. I have yet to check into community centres, but I know for sure the ice rinks are laying down ice around nowish, and thus are bad for unicycling on.

The hunt continues!

start a unicycle club or department within a club that “has” a gym an can provide training space.

larger churches often have a little used gym. there’s been people who’ve had luck with that. if the local ymca or whatever is nice maybe they’d let you use a racketball court, especially if you’re a member.
