Indestructable unicycles down under??

Those of us living in Australia and New Zealand have to put up with crappy
exchange rates and horrendous postage costs. This makes it VERY expensive
to import any unicycle parts from places other than Asia.

Unfortunately the higher quality parts all seem to come via the USA
or the UK.

I have been working on ideas to combat this problem. Steve, Tony and
myself figured it would be cheaper to get unicycles custom built here
rather than importing them.

The only parts that have to be imported at present are the hub, bearing
holders, cranks and seat.

One of the big problems we face is getting hold of a decent hub and crank
set for more than an arm and a leg.

To this end we are looking into getting a run of bullet proof hubs made
for splined cranks. What we need to know is how many people in Australia
or NZ would be interested in buying one?

Also any advice from those people who have had experience with developing
hubs would be much appreciated.

So far we’ve had a custom 26" Muni built for $1000 NZ (Virtually identical
to the black Pashley power Muni $1000 NZ + $300 postage)

and a custom 2 wheeler built for $1000 NZ

A custom Monty trials uni is on the way and should cost around $800 NZ

The unicycles end up at a similar cost to those available through Unicycle
source but we can skip the $200 to $300 postage (and support the local
economy). Plus there is the coolness factor of getting a custom built
unicycle to your specs with your choice of colour etc.

Peter

I’m interested - depending on price of course.

Whoops, that would be

a good hub and crankset for LESS than an arm and a leg
