important question about mounting a 26 and 24

I have a 29 inch unicyle that I can not mount that I purchased several years ago. I have decided to purchase either a 24 or 26 inch unicyle. Is the 26 easier to mount then the 29? Is it much harder to mount a 26 then a 24? Has anyone heard of the Nimbus 26 hybrid? (it is a Nimbus II Muni frame with a hookworm tire) Would this be good for most street riding along some riding on the state fairgrounds parking which is grass, sand and some rocks. ( I am 5’11 male, 32 and half inseam, and 220 pounds

Hi, I’m a new rider, and have experiences only on the 20" and 24" unicycles. However I’m shorter as well, at 5’3", so I guess my experience should be helpful.

With the bigger wheel you need to jump more forcefully to get up. If you can already ride, I think you should stick to trying to mount the 29". However if you’re learning from scratch, maybe you should get a smaller uni to learn on.

I have a 24, 26, and 29. I had the 24 and 29 first, and my freemounting on the 29 was always very VERY dodgy. I was very comfortable on the 24 when I bought the 26. The 26 was only SLIGHTLY more difficult to mount, but I quickly grew accustomed to it and became just as comfortable on the it as I was on the 24.

When I brought out the 29 again after a month or two of riding mostly the 26, mounting was EASY. I freemounted on the first try. My freemounting is not 100% on the 29, but it’s getting there. Having the 26 as a step in between helped with my comfort level on the 29 enormously.

LoneReaction’s got it pretty spot-on.

The bigger the wheel, the bigger the commitment necessary to get yourself into the balance-envelope from where you can then ride away, with grace and style.

You need to commit to the mount, launch with a bit more vigour and a touch more attitude and you’ll be good to go.

+1
And I would say if you have a 29 you don’t need anything smaller unless it’s for specialty use, eg;trials or muni.
Go do some mounting practise on the 29. Even go back to using backing board just to help get the feel and confidence.
