iMovie + Time Machine questions / HD footage is huge.

Hey everyone (and hopefully you mac geeks out there :))

I was trying to upload some HD footage (40 gbs of it to be exact) to my external hard drive, but it went to my normal hard drive. Then, time machine did it’s automatic backup, and so now my time machine drive is full.

Question 1: How do I delete this most recent of backups?

Question 2: Can I just put the iMovie event containing all this footage onto my external hard drive, and then edit it from there?

Thanks!
Miles

You can delete the back up by opening the backups folder on the time machine drive and deleting the folder of the recent back up. It will ask for the Admin password when you move it to the trash and the trash will take a long time to empty because it’s so many files. Or if you’re satisfied that you haven’t lost anything recently you can just delete the entire backup folder and start a new one.

If you have room on your main hard drive for all the footage, you can just go into the time machine preference and set it not to back up the folder with the footage by clicking options and choosing the folder.

If you do want to move the footage to the external drive the footage itself is not stored in the event file, so you’ll need to find where it is stored and move it over.
