I’d like to know how to do this…
I have some reasonably good image editing software to do it with but I have no idea how. Could someone please send me in the right direction? Even the name of the editing technique would be enough.

When I make transparent images I use Adobe photoshop, and do the following:
-make a new image with a transparent background
-export it as a .gif
I am not sure if it has to be a GIF for it to be transparent, but that is what I have always done.
I use an old version of adobe (5.0), if you want a more detailed explanation PM me.

Yes it has to be a GIF to put it on the web
transparent pngs are better, but ms doesnt like them or something
