I'm going to learn this!!

I just came in from my lunch break at work and I am excited! I finally got up the courage to bring my uni to work and find a place to practice during breaks. You see, I got this unicycle for Christmas, and I have been reading about all the rest of you that got Christmas presents too. Many of you have been able to find time to practice enough that you are passing level 1, 2, or even 3 or higher by now. I am jealous!

Between my full time job, my part time job, home, and family, it has been hard to find time for practice. Up until today I have only been able to take it to the park one time. It was hard to keep an eye on the kids on the playground and try to ride the uni at the same time. I was also a little intimidated by all the stares I got. The looks would not be so bad if I could actually ride, but I felt quite silly having strangers watch as I hung onto the fence for dear life. Other than that I get it out of the closet every few days and sit on the seat while I hold onto the counter in the kitchen.

I already have the reputation of being the company clown for practicing my juggling in the lunch room, so I figured what the hell! I took the uni out at lunch and went around to the back of the building. I found a long railing by the receiving dock where I would have some relative privacy, and I rode back and forth holding onto it for about a half an hour. My crotch is sore and my legs feel like jello, but I was able to get one or two revolutions at a time without grabbing the railing.

I WILL learn to ride! I WILL! I WILL!

Thanks for inspiring me,
Cherie

Cherie,
Keep going! It’s gets easier every day. I’m 44 years old and I started riding (if you can call it that) a little less than 2 weeks ago. I’ve finally ventured outside the house. Today I went to the sports arena at my local community college. I had the entire huge gym to myself. I practiced for about 45 minutes and set a new personal best…80 feet without assistance. I’m starting to wobble less too. It feels so cool to ride a bit without falling off. Keep up the practicing!

Good for you! Keep it up! Pretty soon you’ll have some others in your workplace wanting to ride along with you.

keep your head up. Who cares what others say

This all brings back memories of just over a year ago when we obtained our first unicycles. My boys and I bought unicycles for ourselves for Christmas. Since there was snow and ice on the driveway, we learned to ride from corner to corner in the living room. My gracious wife put up with marks on the carpet and walls, broken cabinetry, chipped paint and drywall, etc. This year she got her payback. I spent this last Christmas and then some remodeling the living room with fresh paint, new windows, new oak window and baseboard trim, replaced old ugly pine shelves with oak, and some new furniture. Sure looks great!!! But I think we’ve seen the last of riding unicycles in the living room.

Yes, there is already one guy who says he is going to buy one so he and his daughter can learn!

And thanks everyone for all the encouragement!

Cherie

I’ve been riding since last July and have always wanted
to bring my Uni to work, but there are some people who
would constantly kid me about it, and it would get tiring.

I admire your courage to learn despite the consequences.
I am certain you will learn to ride fabulously with that kind
of determination.

Keep practicing, it’ll come come soon enough then you can give us tales to
inspire!

im building courage to ride to class, but now ive got the bad wrist

Me too, I found work the only place to practice, I try to get some time in
at breaks and lunch time. Try to get someone else interested, it makes a big
difference.

I am not finding it easy, not a natural in any way. Eventually I can manage
three or four revolutions but then the crotch pain jumps in… but the pain
barrier is disappearing eventually.

Keep up the practice they do say it will come good in the end

I started taking my uni into work very soon after I got it. The only trouble with it was getting it off all the other clowns so that I could have a go! Not to mention the wetness of your shirt after a good unicycling session…

i have a big flight of indoor steps going up to one of my classes… once i get that down then ill ride to class everyday.
there’s also a long brick wall thats 3-4 feet high and about 500 feet long that i want to ride along (foot and a half wide) and then ride off.
