I have a mild strain in my hamstring and its not getting better with activity. SO looks like I have to rest it and do strengthening exercises til its OK. But what can I do as I’m VERY bored? lol. I’m doing a painting and looking for work. But wondering, should I try juggling or something to keep me occupied? I like the idea of making a bon fire of all my bills lol. Hum, help entertain me!
Yes, juggling. Get the weighted balls and get a work out.
Or pick up Robert Reymond’s Systematic Theology. It’s good reading, and because it’s over 1000 pages long, it should keep you occupied for while.
Oh gosh man, I’m ADHD, I cant read beyond the internet lol. Sad but true. No patience. But where can I get balls for CHEAP? Like the dollar store? I figure it might keep me occupied for awhile. Sorry, I get bored easily and not happy if I"m bored! Just thought maybe this would be fun…
You could get lacrosse balls(sports store), if your looking for the weighted ones. They are a bit heavier than other types. Depends on the size that is comfortable for you. 3 racketballs or tennis balls or any type (equal size while learning) would work fine, lacrosse balls would just give you the extra weight.
I’m ADHD too. I can’t keep focused for long either, sometimes I feel bad that I can’t keep better focused.
So weighted is better? I will check out Sports Authority!
Yes, severely ADHD so I’m getting a occupational evaluation so I can find a career I can stick with lol. I guess thats why I love balance sports. And not surprised if there are a lot of ADHDs amongst unicyclists. Its hard and challenging so not easy to get bored and you can switch from one day being a distance unicyclist, to muni to trials to freestyle hahahahaha. Of course with me, I like to do 4 sports at once sometimes lol. I really need to focus lol.
That’s one option. I’ve toyed with the idea of filling some hollow balls with lead in order to get some nice heavy ones.
That’s just how I am, always so practical and frugal.
I would learn how to master the fine art of juggling more then 1 of these, i know i have and its fun.
No dead animals pleaz lol, I’m kinda a veg-head.
Fair enough, then this you try the generic/equivalent version of a rubber chicken.
It’s just like regular club juggling, if you run a 1/2" dowel down the length of them.
Yeah, I drive my boss crazy or drove her crazy since I am recently unemployed or in the process of being unemployed. I was multi-tasking and she would tell me to do one thing and stop doing more. Than I would have to sit, I’d start tapping something she would look at me as if to stay STOP or sometimes she would tell me to stop. Plus I don’t know about you but I start saying something random because my mind is off on something else before the other conversation is over. I do think your right about unicycling.
I don’t know if the weighted is necessary but Biggestbtc mentioned weight for an added workout. I started with bean bags, than tennis balls.
Funny story, I learned to juggle after I sold my first uni to a guy/kid who was a clown, when I was a kid. We started dating and he taught me to juggle, so if it wasn’t for unicycling I wouldn’t have learned to juggle.
Just depends what your strength level is. A brawny guy like me(t.i.c) needs more weight then just tennis balls.
Hum, let me also add another question. I spent almost a year with a broken arm. I actually never thought I would see the palm of my hand again as it had healed before the surgery fixed to the other bone palm down. So there was one bone in my arm, couldnt rotate it. Anyway, now I can rotate my arm again and its healed but I’m left with the thumb slightly elevated and I guess I have less muscle on the outside so I cant hold change in my hand. It falls out. My hand is also noticeably smaller, like a 1/4" or so narrower now. Its from loss of muscle my PT said so I should get this back. Think I can still do it?! I donno, I’m stubborn, I think so! I think if I came in juggling to my orthopedic office, he would be quite impressed!
juggling sounds like a good skill to learn, maybe even staff spinning or something. just keep up the exercise so that you don’t get back on the uni and your unifit and get tired easy.
By the way you guys describe ADHD I think I might have it. Although I think I may have it mildly. I tend to do multiple things at once (read two or three books at a time). I’m very impulsive and I tend to walk around when I’m bored rather then sit down.
I just read a thing on it and I do believe I have it. I view my strand of it as a good thing though.
BTW do you guys value truth over being nice? And tell people what you feel about certain things without restraint? People tell me I say mean things , though I usually don’t think they are and can’t understand why they think there mean.
Back on topic:
I say get a few good books (switch around if you get bored), learn a musical instrument (like guitar), surf the net, talk to people, and do all possible physical activity you find enjoyable.
I am usually bluntly honest, but I think that is just my personality, but try not to be mean to people, sometimes that works.
Honestly, maybe two books at a time would work, but honestly I don’t think I could do it. I made it all the way through college (BA) and I don’t think I read one full book…skimmed and hoped. I can’t sit down and read for more than maybe…pushing it 5 minutes without getting up and having to do something, that’s just me.
Sorry, reading is out as I cant follow what I’ve read lol. I’m lucky I was smart and could memorize books without having to read them lol. But you would know if you are ADHD. I never watched TV as a kid and now I dont have one per say. I’m not a person that can sit through movies either.
But as far as staying in shape, probably cant do much for a few days besides these simple hamstring rehab exercises I found on the net. I am not sure if skateboarding strains the hamstring and I know the uni and rollerskating does. Hopefully in a few days I can do those easily. But I’m not employed so anything over $10 is out.
From my understanding it is a trait garnered form ADHD. I just say things sometime that aren’t to nice (I don’t mean to be “mean”). For instance I’ll talk to people about being to heavy and how it can negatively affect them. I’m sure they know being over weight is unhealthy, but I just feel like I should talk to them about it and try and help them lose wieght and therefore get “healthier”.
I read for hours at a time. Usually reading multiple books that I’m intereted in. I do get enthralled by some books though.
Yeah I was diagnosed long ago with ADHD, I can’t sit and read either, that’s what I was trying to say. I went through my entire classes and am again, not reading the assignments, just can’t sit down and do it. So far I am getting mostly high grades A’s so I’m not going to worry too much about it.
I can’t sit through an entire movie either.
Also, I feel you about being unemployed my boss just retired and I am just starting being a dislocated worker.
I’d say if you guys have a dollar store or something similar just get what you can or look around the house even. 3 balls or roll three socks up in a ball and use them, lol. Being unemployed sucks BT.
I know there are times I don’t have a filter on my mouth, lol. Good you can sit through books.
Lol. And by the way you described ADHD i think everyone who isn’t in a vegetative state must have it. there have been times i’ve read more than one book at a time, but i just figured i wanted to read more than one book at that time. i tend to walk around when i’m bored too, but i just figured i was doing that because, well, I’M BORED! now i’m starting to wonder if maybe i have adhd
i’m pretty sure it’s reasonably safe to say that you (and most people, if not all people) don’t have adhd (“mild” or not, whatever “mild” is supposed to mean in a situation so subjective as this). but then again i’m not a doctor, and this i know because y’all are not paying me nearly enough damnit!!!
until there is definitive specific causes identified that result in “adhd” it just feels so bull. in fact i don’t think adhd will ever have it’s causes identified because “adhd” is really just a name for something with no face. it’s too broad a term and in the end means nothing. if/when little by little different issues have their causes identified i expect that at that point there will be a proper “name” for this “face”. yes some people have real issues that get labelled as “ADHD” and i’m certainly not denying them that… but to me at the moment saying someone has ADHD is a lot like looking at someone who has just had an arm amputated in a car accident and saying they have “a booboo” and maybe an Aspirin is the solution… yes they have a booboo, but it’s a bit more specific than that thanks, and an Aspirin in this case isn’t going to cut it and is hardly a fitting solution to this specific problem.
seeing people have different issues but not really understanding the cause of it and then throwing blanket labels and random drugs at them is hardly a great way to go, but of course doing nothing at all is likely to be even worse. yes, baby steps. but COME ON quit with the baby steps already and start taking some damn strides and give people better answers and solutions and quit with this broad generalisation and random medication crap. someone crack open a bottle of snake-oil please!
someone please get me a podium so i may continue my general rant in a more dignified manner
hmm clearly i don’t have ADHD since tonight i’ve been doing a lot of ranting. ah well it’s good for the soul, and it seems my soul has certainly been getting it’s fiber lately.
how about doing something to educate yourself and put yourself in a potentially better position for the future? i quit my job a few months back, and since then i did a LOT of study of stock and foreign exchange trading as there is a lot of money to be made (and all to lose) there both now and into the future. i’ve also done what i consider to be a fair bit of trading since then, and this is something i would never have imagined at the beginning of the year when i knew almost nothing about any of it other than the vaguest notions of what it was all about. now that i’ve started to travel down this road i began to learn about those months ago i can see new opportunities previously unseen for the future.
of course if this is not something that interests you then that’s that, but maybe there is something you have been wondering about or wanting to learn about and which could potentially enhance your future? learn a new language if you ever think you might travel. read some botany books or something if you keep killing your plants… etc etc.
in the end if you can’t find something to entertain yourself then there’s always the xbox?
