Im sorry to inform you all but im becoming a circus performer prattically Now before you start screaming burn him on a stake its all for a good cause its for my new invention (well to me atleast) A GEARED GIRRAFFE O and not to mention a handy dandy 32.00 an hour WOOOT
A circus performer isn’t bad. Just don’t give unicyclists a bad name, like ‘clown’ or something. ( :
No i wont im not juggleing im doing trials and stuff like that lots of freestyle noclown suit or those big shoes ugh
I’m actually quite involved in a local Circus Troop here in Pittsburgh. Nothing bad about the Circus its theater with tricks. When its done well its a very cool thing, its when its done poorly is when you have to look out.
If you dont mind what circus are you working with? $32 an hour seems like alot concidering how many hours are put into a show.
[shameless plug] check out www.zanyumbrella.com [/ end]
its not quite a circus its a thing where i get booked a few of us at work and we perform for parties half the parties i perform for are for ppl my same age the most i get in a week is 4 hours
Ahh yes, I’ve done thoes as well, $32 isnt bad but just so you know depending on what your doing for that time party rates change alot.
I’ve done work juggling and unicycling at gigs for anywhere from $15/hr for minimal stuff: juggling, no show just informal walk abouts, to $700/hr+ per person for Aerials shows that require extencive time to set up for and produce an act to fit a theme of the benefit.
Dont be the new kid that gets schooled because an agent low balls you into doing a show for the cheapest price in town, then again dont go out and activly try to rip off your audience. Just try to go out and charge for what you think is fair for your performance, adjust your rate to include set up and take down/ clean up time into your rate, travel expences, and the caliber of the event being hosted. A childs birthday party is a bit different than a black tie banquet.
Mike
that’s some pretty solid advice
congrats on landing the (paying) gigs
nothing quite as sweet as getting paid to have fun
one issue i’ve been very carefull about since i started accepting paying gigs for unicycling and juggling is to make sure that i don’t undercut the full-time performers
i get booked mostly because i can do some things not too many of the full-time performers can do
i remain a part-timer tho and i’m just thrilled to get paid for having so much fun
since my day job pays my bills, gig-money is gravy-money
but i won’t accept rates lower than the full-timers because i don’t want to devalue what ‘we’ do and i don’t want to be accused of taking food off their tables
it’s a personal concern and i’m not preaching it
im just saying, that’s all
You should not devalue what you do either. You are helping them maintain their value, but you are also charging a fair price for your own value. If they can’t do it, you are totally worth it.
There is nothing wrong with circus. Circus is cool. When done well, it’s my favorite form of theater. I used to do it for a living.
The automatic association of a unicyclist on the street with circus and/or clowns is where most of us unicyclists have a problem.
For performing, not counting freebies, my minimum price is usually $150. That number is based on my being an experienced performer, tempered by my out-of-practicedness, and extremely low number of shows per year. My record is $1200 for being one act in a one-hour show (10 min.). That show was in Bali, so it involved being away from home for almost a week, with no other income for that period. Of course it did include a trip to Bali. On the downside, I had to ride my artistic bike (and everything else) on carpet that didn’t have to be there. Definitely my most difficult artistic bike performance ever.
hmm i didnt know they change well my first gig is tomm so ill inform u how it gos
wish i could get paid to ride…sigh
woooo mona Monaaaaa MONEY WOOOOT LOL
Re: Im becoming what i HAte
When I saw your title, the first thing that came to mind was either Conservative or Capatalist. Turns out I was right.
