If I wuz in charge

Instead of passing out a check as a band aid in the form of an economy booster that will waste even more in all the paperwork… Which will go overseas cause we import everything, I’d take that money and invest it in green technology development… Thin film photovoltaic, wind generators for example. Anything that actually helps build industry and jobs in a good way. Maybe even help out the domestic auto makers retool so they can produce competitive small fuel efficient cars here.

Since there’s so much resistance to growing hemp for biodiesel, which by the way can grow in marginal land, doesn’t require pesticides or irrigation, has greater potential than just about everything else in gallons per acre, then why not use genetic engineering to remove the THC and make the stems a funny color so there won’t be any confusion.

Instate the National sales tax, so each item produced in this country will only be taxed once, and people will have more real money in their pockets… Less money being sent away to avoid taxes… Creating more industry and good jobs.

Get it across how our GDP has shifted when you look at the sectors: Financial vs industry and actually try to do something about it.

Since we do have a military, let’s be fair and bring back the draft. Make everyone serve two years so everyone gets a chance. Maybe it will make war more real to the people in charge when their sons and daughters are in harms way. It would sure help out the troops everyone claims to support by keeping their tours to 12 months, not years.

You have this assumption that the govenrment has this money to give. They don’t. They have to create more money, or borrow it from China, to do this.

Hemp does not have THC in it. The drug war should be abolished anyways, and therefore there would be no need to detect by sight which Cannabis has THC and which doesn’t. The farmers will know what their crop is.

Nah, just get rid of the income tax. If the government cut spending to what it was a decade ago, we wouldn’t need the income tax. We should return to constitutional taxation, which means a direct tax on the States (not the people), and the States can determine their methods of taxation to meet their tax obligation to the Federal government, which may include a sales tax.

A draft is slavery. If a war is just, there will be enough willing volunteers to sign up.

I’m all in favor of a draft.

But that’s because I like riots and mass social unrest I suppose.

Anyways If I was in charge:

  1. Cut the fat. Do away with unnecesary government spending. Starting with military spending, all the way down through to things like toll booths.

  2. US out of everywhere. Along with our military, we need to stop our money and our laws from influencing other countries. Kill NAFTA, the WTO, FTA, all of it. Stop letting US companies outsource their slave labor and polution to countries outside of the US.

  3. Envioromental Justice. Tax the hell out of corperations that pollute. Invest in true green technology.

  4. No corporate bailouts. If the airlines are failing, there’s a reason for that.

  5. No lobbiests, no campaign donations. Change the way elected officials get chosen.

  6. Legalize it. “It” being almost anything. Drugs, porno, guns, whatever. Of course, there needs to be tight restrictions on all aquiring and using all this stuff too.

  7. Socialize insurance and healthcare. Doesn’t mean it’s free, it just means that no one is making money off stuff like this.

  8. Immigration reform. Get rid of the fences.

Don’t doctors deserve to be compensated for their work?

Get rid of the welfare system that gives them the incentives to come here at our expense.

The reason we don’t have a draft is that if someone tried to implement it, there would be an instant stop to the war. And we can’t have that, can we?

For those that didn’t follow, no the war would not stop itself, but the political uproar would be huge and swift. No more war, probably no need for a draft anyway. But somebody needs the war to last as long as possible. A whole bunch of corporate and political somebodies. Cha CHING!

Man, this could so easily be turned into one of those debating threads.

Dude, what your saying technically would overthrough the US, It would destroy world economies to no end, it would create mass poverty, resulting in mass violence. Thats just mainly in our country, now to think of everyone else. Countries such as China and Japan would crash, since they are incrediably reliant on the US.

Your thinking too much green, it cant all happen at one time. If we were to go through with such things, we would need to do it over say… 15-30 years. It would take time, but there would also need to be more laws to hold all this together. Seriously, what your saying to have the world putting a gun to our heads. If you would research anything more, you would realize that its impossible just to pull out. Were still in cease fires with countries such as china, (us being on taiwans side), if we pulled, a lot of countries would jump on the chance of having more land. We would end up in WWIII, which would (in our technological state) involve a sh*t load of nuclear weapons.

I will agree though that we need to lay off having our companies overseas. I support anything that would help the environment and being green overall. Although it sounds magnificent, its not possible at the moment.

Its like trapping a bear in a corner, at the moment youve got it at bay. Lets say you just decide to run, its got a very likely chance its just going to maul you.

We in NO WAY can just pull out of Iraq as it is. We have too much money, too much time, too many people invested into it. If we decide to pull out, dictatorships shall thrive, mass unrest for world populations.

As i stand, you are opting for the apocolipse. Either that or treason.

p.s. i can also see with the whole letting more people into the country, but first we need to learn to be a more socialy accepting country. We cant just let down the flood gates and not expect anyone to rebell.

I’ll try to stay out as much as i can, after all, im a liberalist lol…

Nimbusnut, i think you should re name the thread ‘If I WUZ A DICTATOR’ lol…

Seriously, be realistic with what you think. If we drew back all our troops, and instated a draft, we would be fighting in almost every country lol…

So people shouldn’t have a choice if they can join the military or not?
What if you didn’t believe in the military?
Are you wanting to take away freedom from people even more?

Thats where our constitution comes in. You can be a conciencous objector,

What if you arn’t?
Should you HAVE to join the military? Like Gilby said before, it’s slavery.

Well, flee the country? idk, there isnt much you can do. If you decide to leave, and evade a draft, you’ll be prosecuted. If you apply to become a conciencous objecter, some chances are, you’ll be allowed not to fight

…or you could not have a draft to start with…

Yes, i agree totaly with not having a draft, its pointless. In Iraq at the moment, ive spoken to a few people who have served, and have gone back to serve more, and a few people who know a lot of political stuff, and they all say they highly doubt a draft in Iraq, as its going, we have enough troops im pretty sure

I’m glad I don’t live in your America. It’d commit suicide.

You can socialize medicine and not cut Doctors pay. Why not cut administrative and legal costs instead?

Socialized medicine, if done properly, should cost less than our current system.

Cut everything else if you want, but medical care ought to be a right.

Almost anything would cost less than what we have now… but I bet the government can prove us wrong.

A right? A right is something that you have without asking someone else to sacrifice. Do I have the right to go to a doctor and make them give me medical care? Of course not. It’s not a right. What I have the right to do is make an arrangement with that doctor to give me medical care, but I can’t force them. Medical care is a privilege, which means it is at the consent of the person who is willing to give or pay for it.

If you can’t steal from your neighbor, then why do you think you can ask your government to do it for you?

While we both would probably agree that medical care should be available to everyone and available at minimal cost to the recipient that otherwise couldn’t afford it, stealing is not the way to go about it.

Stealing?
Are we stealing when we drive on roads, use parks or go to school?

We would all still PAY for medical costs, but we just wouldn’t loose everything we own when we inconveniently got sick between jobs.

Yeah, some people would freeload off the system. …but those same people already use emergency rooms, free clinics, or just don’t pay their bills. Tax payers eat it either way.

No, the theft already occured, though in your examples, the real source of payment is voluntary. The roads are paid via the excise tax on gas, the parks via the contract you have with your city when you purchased your house (or when you landlord did and passed that onto you, the renter), and the schools via property tax as well (though lots of bloated federal regulations and some money has come in other ways, it should all be via property taxes or other voluntary means).

That’s what insurance is for. The problem is that the current government designed system is where it’s tied to one’s job instead of tied to the actual individual.

Yeah, the current system doesn’t work. Do we go with socialism and theft, or solve the problem at the root cause of the problem?
