Damn’ colonials. Try to sell our own flag to us by calling us “Limeys”? It’s not a term we use about ourselves, thank you.
Ha
Best marketing plan ever, lets insult our desired audience. They can sell one for me with the Italian flag, they should call it the guinea-cycle seat
We could start an awsome thread, whats the most insulting ethnic slur for a unicycle, and then we can pitch out ideas to the marketing team…
So far we have: Limey + uni = Loony
guinea + uni = Goonie (or a wopcycle)
I hope that if your complaint is genuine you are also sharing it with the sellers of the product in question. I think they’re cool seat covers, long as the unicycle is a good color match. I’ve always wanted to have a Mini Cooper (old kind), red, with that flag painted on the roof. Even if I have to take the seats off the unicycles to fit them in the back seat…
Not as bad as calling a black unicycle Nigger.
Example: Introducing the new kh blacked out unicycle, The nigger. Put your nigger to work all day, it’s heavy duty.
Also not as bad as calling a white unicycle Honky trailer trash.
Example: Introducing the new all white unicycle from nimbus, the Honky trailer trash sp. Edition ride. Get yours today Only avaible where stupid, self righeous hill billies and or crazy old white people/ crackers/ young crazy white people/ ignorant white bread devil honkies are at.
Extremely distasteful.
In all seriousnessocity I think that seat looks pretty cool.
Seems this is available at http://www.unicycle.uk.com but not US. It’s not the Colony’s fault.
Way to go WB. I bet you’ve been waiting quite a while for an excuse to throw those terms into a post.
Bad is still bad.
AFAIK Onza is a British company isn’t it?
Oh, and Mike - have you really only just noticed Onza Limeys? They’ve been on sale for ages, possibly years!
They could do a Pommy version for sale in Australia, and a Rosbeef for France…
Rob
It’s a nice seat, but “Limey”?
Yanks call Brits “Limeys” because British sailors used to eat limes to stave off the effects of scurvy.
So let’s market a “bleu blanc et rouge” seat and call it “Le Frog” because our French friends eat frogs’ legs.
Or, as our German friends eat saurkraut, let’s market something to them as “The Kraut”.
Or let’s do one with the Australian flag and call it the “English cricketers for breakfast” because that’s what the Aussies will eat in a few weeks.
I’m not offended by the word “Limey” but I am surprised that the name should be used to sell a product to Brits. It should be called something more suitable, like the “Queen Muvver, Gawd bless 'er” or something.
I want one of those! I’m not insulted.
Even though they are ethnic slurs, their origins are weak…I mean Limey, thats the best you could do? Or Mick, Kraut, WOP, Dago,…the real good ones are DIB, Dial, Cow-Kisser, caneater…eh here’s the list
Neither am I. Not against Limey, anything Bob said, or anything anyone can cuss out here. Words are just words to me, their meaning is whatever i want it to be, when I want it to be.
Limey doesnt even sound like a big deal. Wait till everyone sees my sieg heil uni. It has Baby Hitlers face all over it. People will love it.
Now I’m confused. I can get to this link through Google, but if I start out from UDC homepage, I can’t find it.
Perplexing.
I always wondered why they called it the Limey saddle and now I know!
Perplexing indeed. I did a search on the US and UK sites for “Limey” and only got a hit on the UK site.
So far I don’t see any evidence of the “Yanks” using the term “Limey”.
I’m offended by the use of “Yank” or “Yankee” by the way. Being of Dutch heritage and all:
From Wiki: The most plausible derivation is from the Dutch first names “Jan” and “Kees.” “Jan” and “Kees” were and still are common Dutch first names, and also common Dutch given names or nicknames. In many instances both names (Jan-Kees) are also used as a single first name in the Netherlands. The word Yankee in this sense would be used as a form of contempt, applied derisively to Dutch or English settlers in the New England states.[2]
Another speculation suggests the Dutch form was Jan Kaas, “John Cheese”, from the prevalence of dairy farming among the Dutch, but this seems far-fetched.
I had no idea what “limey” meant.
On another note i skimmed through that list for the derogatory canadian names and was surprised to find that “hoser” is a canadain term.
I doubt anyone would sell something labeled hoser unless it is a giant beer mug or keg.
Alternately you could be a poser with your new hoser saddle.
The funniest derogatory term I have heard is jungle bunny.
I have that saddle, although it’s in my spares pile in the loft as I snapped the base and didn’t get round to swapping it out.
It like the shape of it, but the colour has faded on the side where my legs rubbed it.
Is it like a Kris Holm Fusion Street Gel Saddle? Or is it weaker?
I hope no one is really offended with these silly terms we use. Its just a word, what’s offensive is how a person is using the term. Words don’t hurt people, they are just words, they can’t do anythign until we give them meaning. But, for those that are offended, I wanted to help…
http://www.ehow.com/how_2078115_overcome-being-easily-offended.html
All day. I just get a kick out of ‘bad words’ it makes my blood rush knowing I’m getting away with something so bad.
Plus one.
Being offended just because society tells us we should be is extremely stupid, I’m not going to follow stupid things. The belief system which causes one to be offend can easily go off the deep end and become extreme, and have seen many situations needless escalate because of words.
I’ve asked a lot of black people why the word Nigger offends them. What do I get? Nothing. It’s in music, it’s in the media, it is everywhere, I hear it everyday multiple times, so it obviously just isn’t the word most people don’t like. It’s the word coming out of a white persons mouth, or an assumed white person typing it. << That is rasict, not the word.
If your one of the few who don’t care to hear the word at all, for whatever reason you have, and dislike it equally in similar context not paying attention to the color of the speaker I can have some respect for what you say. Your not the majority though, which is why I said what I did. Excuse me if I prematurly catorigized you.
It is still a silly word which needs to be put to rest instead of being brought back generation after generation to seperate blacks and whites. Putting nigger to rest dose not me avoiding it like the plauge, it means to strip it of the hate and meaning which the black and white community have so stupidly gave it. I’m not saying we ignore our history, but we need to learn from it and adjust ourselves accordingly and take back our languge and stop perpetuating silly beliefs about a little one syllabal word.
As for Honky I’ve never met a single person who is actually offended by it, if you are, wow, I feel the same for all silly words thought.
You thought it was from somewhere else? I first heard it on SCTV.
Or a unicycle convention. I’m sure Carl Hoyer will figure out how to use it in one of his event names. Brought to you by the makers of the TOQUE and CANUC unicycle conventions…
So… if Limey, Frog and Kraut are all food-related, what food gets used as a derogatory name for Americans? Hot dogs?
