I have only been unicycling for a year, but i feel that this is something i will be doing for a long time. I love this shit. well recently I had my unicycle stolen , which pisses me off considering no body unicycles, but any way I need a new set up. I want a unicycle that will last me for some time and will not limit what i can do. I am willing to pitch in some money because i never skimp on what i put my balls on. well anyway I was thinking maybe a kris holm double crown frame. is this a good idea, and where can i buy one in the US. it seems that all sites that sell them are either old or are for a different country. thanks for your help
Double crown is unnecessary and the only reason it would be useful rather than just extra weight is if you plan on needing a LOT of room to stand on the crown of the frame.
What kind of riding do you do?
New setup
I have only been unicycling for a bit, but i think i would say i am a street unicycler. i do rolling unispins, 180âs, and some ledge grinding. my stolen unicycle was a trials one. I donât know the different advantages between trials and street unicycles. i love watching flat land unicyclers and can see myself getting involved with that. should i stick with a trials unicycle? is the extra money for a over 100$ frame worth it? if i am going to make the effort to spend more than 100$ on a frame, should it be a kris holm long neck or the nimbus equinox? i guess the basic question is what should i be looking for in a frame.
Thanks
the only reason that i thought i needed the double crown because i thought i would be easier to learn wheel wraps and such. now that i have researched it a little more i feel that it is not necessary.
I wouldnât recommend the double crown to anyone. Like the first batch of the KH sym cranks or asym cranks whatever they were, these parts were a bold move made by KH to create innovative parts that will help riders in certain areas of unicycling, but not overall, both of these parts will restrict you on certain moves to some extent.
I love that KH makes this crap though, one of the only companies that takes bold steps in improving the sport, like the rollos, KH will make something eventually that is amazing and will probably revolutionize the sport. The double crown is not one of those things though. Just get a long neck or short neck if you wanna buy KH. The equinox⌠I donât have experience with this frame, KH is very popular though and comes with a warranty against manufacturing faults which I donât think nimbus does, so go with KH the weight difference is pretty much the exact same.
My Equinox freestyle should arrive today or tomorrow. In NZ it is $320 cheaper to buy the Equinox than the KH, and it is listed as being half a KG lighter with similar parts- it has KH cranks and Nimbus hub. I think you are wrong about Nimbus not having a manufacturing guarantee- it is standard for all goods and services to be covered by the consumer guarantees act-
This would be similar in other countries. So I would decide depending on how much money you have to spend- I like your statement âI am willing to pitch in some money because i never skimp on what i put my balls onâ cos it is so true when people save money on seats it can hurt them.
If you have a manufacturing problem with any of Unicycle.comâs products whether they are Nimbus, KH or other, they will do their best to set it right no matter what brand they are- as far as I know from personal experience. Usually you have no problems- so good luck on choosing your new ride. Bummer about the stolen uni- hope it comes back or at least gets used in itâs new home.
I have both a Nimbus (well, two Nimbusus) and a KH and I love them both.
âŚdifferent models of Nimbus, though
From what I can tell, the Equinox is just a newer, better version of the freestyle Nimbus I currently own (so if youâre looking at the prebuilt unis, get the KH if you want the big bouncy trials tire.)
I wish I had an Equinox frame
Itâs just so sleek!
Overall I think the KH frame is probably better for what youâre doing.
âGet rollo disks with your KH moment cranks if you want to get into crankrolls and whatnot.
(other cranks also work fantastically, but not the moments sans rollo disks Iâm afraid. Far too nice and trim )
âGet the longneck if youâve ever had issues with bashing your knees against the seatclamp or you like the added sexiness and donât mind being limited in how low you can put the seat
Iâm looking at the Equinox as I think Iâm moving toward freestyle/flat. Iâve been riding for a few months and am probably going to be pretty hard on components until I improve. Can anyone who has one let me know what they think of them? Cheers.
