mboulanger’s avatar made me want to go search the net for the Saturday Night Live cowbell sketch. It’s one of the better sketches SNL has done. I still laugh every time I see it. I also recently heard a parody done by a radio station that substituted Queens of the Stone Age for Blue Oyster Cult. I needed to find that song too. Time to fire up Google.
Glad you liked it, John. I got it off of a thread from a post on fark (Walken is a Fark hero and 'cowbell" is a well entrenched Fark cliche) about the SNL sketch. The best post I read on the subject was one guy who felt like it ruined the song for him because he had never noticed how pervasive the cowbell is until he watched the SNL bit.
Fark is a fun place to browse. I’m not registered there but I do browse the articles when I’m in the mood for reading funny news.
Fortunately the SNL sketch hasn’t ruined Don’t Fear The Reaper for me. I can still listen to it without getting distracted by the cowbell. The cowbell in the actual song is not in your face or overdone.
Oh my! Will Ferrell is hosting SNL tonight. The musical guest was Queens of the Stone Age. Can you guess what they did? Almost too predictable.
Queens of the Stone Age played Little Sister and Will Ferrell came out dressed in the 70’s costume from the cowbell skit and played cowbell. You’d think QOTSA would try to avoid getting Little Sister typecast as the new cowbell song.
Our eastern and central time zone friends here should have put out an alert that we had cowbell on SNL. What use is it to have people living in the future if they don’t report back and tell us what is about to happen?
