so about 2-3 weeks ago i was in the hospital. For 5 days. Becus they found out i had diabetes. We origianly went to the hospital becus i thot i had strept throat. But i told them my symptoms and they did a blood test and my blood sugar was 463.
I do have a lot of questions about it. Some i cant ask the doctor cus my mom is always in the room with me when im with the doctor.
But can i smoke weed still? Im not really into weed anymore but maybe everyonce in a while i mite do it.
and
Can i drink anymore? My mom was saying no but i heard I culd drink lite beers and clear alchohol like vodka.
My sister has type 1 diabetes. After awhile it won’t seem so bad.
Though I’m no expert, I would say you probably can still smoke weed. I can’t imagine it really interfering with your blood sugar.
On the other hand, drinking is a bit more problematic. My sister does have a few drinks every now and then, but that’s just a few. Alcohol really messes around with your blood sugar. I would probably not get very drunk at all if I were you, because messed up blood sugars+ terrible judgement just doesn’t mix well. You are much more likely to be killed from alcohol. I would try to stay away from alcohol, or at least drink in moderation.
Edit: about the weed smoking, make sure you are still concious enough to make good decisions about insulin intake and stuff. Also, I can’t imagine munchies+ temporary stupidity mixing well either. Just whatever you do, make sure you can still control your blood sugars.
I think you can still smoke weed, as long as you don’t eat lots of sweet things when you feel hungry, after smoking it. Because, the hungry that comes right after you smoke (I don’t know the name in english… in portuguese we have a name for it) makes you wanna eat LOTS of sweet things. So, if you can control that, it’s ok I think! Hehe
But take it easy to start with.
When you’re first diagnosed with diabetes it seems like you world has changed for the worse forever.
But after a while you will get used to your limits, what you can and can’t do.
my friends was diagnosed with type 1 when he was really really younge (under three, maybe even when he was a few months old). Anywho, he deals with it fine. He takes insulin like 4 times a day i think maybe. I dont care to count when hes over.
make sure your blood sugar is in check though dude.
in total unrelation sorta -
My friends’s lunch hour got changed, cause a girl in their class got diagnosed. The kid whos type one is like “grow a pair and deal with a late lunch our”, she probably doesnt take insulen at all during the day, just loads up in the morning probably.
If no one has told you yet, you should make an appointment with a registered nutritionist who deals with diabetes. This person will teach you the ins and outs of managing your diet, counting dietary exchanges, etc.
We are a great bunch at giving unicycle advice and pretty decent at other advice too but next time you are at the doctors office you should just ask your mom to leave the room for a bit and just ask your doctor. You are 17, she should respect your privacy.
thats a little too harsh isn’t it jerrick.
Just make sure the sugars ok and you’ll be absolutely fine, just some dietary changes… not death. That’s a little excessive.
I sympathize with your dilemma. Half my family is diabetic. Remember anything you smoke or drink which has the ability to dull your senses particularly speech may mask an insulin reaction due to low blood sugar.
Low blood sugar may produce a stupor effect on your body. Staring into space with no reaction to normal stimulus. If you haven’t slipped into a diabetic reaction you may not know how “fast” you do slip into one. Some people slip fast others slow.
Good luck. Try to keep the blood sugar within guidelines first for a period of time before drinking or smoking.
Don’t be mean. His girlfriends had to get an abortion and that shit is not good at all.
Don’t make fun of that.
I’m sure he’s worried about other stuff but he didn’t want to ask his doctor about weed in front of his mom whereas he can ask the other stuff in front of her.
