I am light headed but my helmet finally fits

Just letting you guys know that I cut off my dreads last week, like usual I don’t have a camera but when somebody eventually posts a pic on facebook I will post it up here. That is six years of hair gone.

Honestly I miss the beard more than the hair, I miss that warm softness of a bushy beard.

The thread is worthless without pics.

A defining moment. It a loss of insulation for that cool climate.

I picture a little boy cut.

Would you mind shring the reason for the decision?

pics or it didn’t happen

You must feel so…so free! :stuck_out_tongue:

Beards are fine; you should grow it back. They save time not having to shave.

But he said that he cut, so to me. That is proof enough.

It’s quite liberating, eh.

I gave mine the chop a few months ago after seven years of them.

Be prepared for a cold head! On the upside though there’ll be hundreds of hats you were never able to wear which you now can.

If you still want to be able to recreate the dreadlocked feeling sew the ones you chopped off around the edge of a hat.

But I demand proof.

I’m just curious what he looks like now.

awwwwww… well now your helmet fits and you won’t die when you crash!

you has facebooks?

Court date coming up, or a job interview?

No, he should donate them to Locks of Love.

Pics!! :d

I have been considering getting them cut while on my road trip but decided about a month ago that I was going to get them cut. I waited until last week because I promised my friends mom over three years ago that that she could be the one to cut my hair when i decide to do it, and therefore I had to wait until I was in Prince Albert to get them cut.

So on the way back from a cabin party I stopped in and the chopping commenced. My friends mom pretty much chickened out and only cut a couple but her daughters did most of the cutting. Overall I think there were 8 people who cut off some of the dreads including me. When they were done everybody was too scared of messing up to finish the job trimming and making things even, I ended up doing the trimming myself the next day in-front of a mirror.

Yes i did loose a lot of insulation. II used to be able to be outside with no toque in -20 and be fine, now my head is cold when i go outside in -10 which sort of sucks. It is back down to -25 right now.

I cut a couple in half a few times to see what the inside looked like, from what I heard from other people I was expecting them to be sort of gross inside full of lint and possibly dead skin but they were all really clean. I think that people must get gross centers to their dreads from using the dread products like waxes. I just washed them with dish soap once or twice a week and never put anything in/on them.

People keep asking me if I feel better with short hair and I have to say no. It does feel different but I got used short hair surprisingly fast. I did not feel bad with dreads, I just decided it was time for a change. I do on the other hand miss the beard but I should probably get used to not having it if I am going to be fire fighting, they say it is harder to use an oxygen tank if you have a beard and I believe it. Besides it is probably best not to have anything that can catch on fire on your face.

I will have to e-mail my friends and their mom to see if any of them can post up the pictures, I thought that they would be up by now.

Edit: I did a before and after on a digital bathroom scale and lost 1.5 lbs but I don’t know how accurate the scale is.

My uncle had his for seven years as well, but gave them the chop three years ago. Amazing how much smaller it makes your head look.

Wow, that’s pretty serious. No wonder you feel light-headed.

Ever heard of Absalom?

OH wow you look years younger! Picked a pretty raunchy time to do this, what with this cold snap we’re getting into. lol

Wow, big change. Do your friends even recognize you now? Any funny stories about people not knowing who you are?

So you didn’t go for the complete shave? You at least have hair.

Several years ago, one of my nieces grew out dreds. Her dad (my bro-in-law) has always had a full beard. They decided to both shave thier entire heads for some cancer function. Pretty funny seeing them together both bald and no facial hair, I’ll have to see if I can find the pic.
