Does anyone know of or have a list of foods toxic to dogs. I’ve been looking for quite sometime now (like 7 minutes) and I can’t find hardly anything, except chocolate, unions/garlic, chicken bones, Pear pips, the kernels of plums, peaches and apricots, apple core pips (arsenic), potato peelings and green looking potatoes, rhubarb leaves, moldy/spoiled foods, alcohol, yeast dough, coffee grounds, beans & tea (caffeine), hops (used in home brewing), tomato leaves & stems (green parts), broccoli,
raisins and grapes, cigarettes, tobacco, and cigars. If anyone could add to the list, it would help. Why do I want this stuff? My step dad is raising a Pug Puppy and he’s a little dumb, so yeah, and I want to make a printed out list and give it to him or post it up in my house. So yeah. And remember, I like cheese in a can!!

Oh, I love pugs! Is the puppy fawn or black? I have a 1 1/2 year old pug named Doug. I had a pug named Bubba who got into a 2-lb. box of Belgian chocolates when we weren’t home, and he died. He was 3 years old. It was really sad.
One thing I’ve learned with pugs is that (at least with the 2 I have had) they will eat and eat anything they get into. Bubba had also gotten into a huge bag of gummy bears. He probably ate a whole pound or two. He was in bad shape that night, but he ended up being okay. Until the chocolates a year or two later.
Doug has gotten into gummy sharks, Orbit gum, fig newtons, and many other things. I came downstairs one night to find him standing on the kitchen table eating the butter off the butter tray! He ate like a half-stick of butter! So watch out. Be careful that there’s nothing around he can get into, and know what he can get up onto (like the kitchen table).
Bubba didn’t and Doug won’t quit eating when he’s full. Bubba literally ate himself to death.
I would say just don’t feed him anything except his dog food and dog treats. Probably no table scraps or no people food period would be a good idea. Maybe some veggies. Bubba ate carrots and now Doug eats them too. Although lately Doug has been throwing up quite often, and sometimes it is when we feed him carrots. I don’t know if it’s because of them or if he has some other problem. The best thing to do is probably to make a list of things that the dog can have, and don’t give it anything else.
I believe the breeder we got Doug from said that he mixed some vegetables in with the puppy food. Your stepdad could ask the vet what some good things for him are.
Bubba at one time was having muscle spasms, and the vet told us to give him half a banana a day, for potassium. So I guess bananas are ok for dogs to eat.
If he’s not sure if something is ok for the dog to eat, I would suggest giving the vet a call.

I don’t know how healthy this is, but down in Brazil, both the people and the dogs at beans and rice for almost every meal. They’d just make a big pot of beans and a big pot of rice, and fed the same thing to the animals as they all ate. It was good though.

Gee Sendhair, That brings back Memorie’s when I was a teenie-weenie in the early 1970’s when I was growing up. You must have got good memory to remember all that. I’m going to copy that for my future Children. Thanks Mate for that. Gosh I wish I had kept my list of nursery rhymes now.

HOT DOGS.
Not only is it a form of cannibalism (hey, I don’t know what’s in there), it seems to be really bad for dogs.
A while back we had a back yard barbeque, and apparently someone fed an unknown number of hot dogs to Betty Lou (pictures of our “children”: http://www.unicycling.com/ofoto/family.htm).
Betty went outside and ate a large amount of grass, then proceeded to come in and barf up the most disgusting grassy mess. She continued to vomit and/or try to vomit every few minutes all night and into the next morning. This was a Sunday, so we took her to our nearby emergency animal clinic. $300 later, the advice was “don’t give her hot dogs, very bad for dogs!”
Many people foods are worse for dogs than they are for us. English Bulldogs, like many pure breeds, are probalby more sensitive to dietary items than more robust, mixed breed dogs. So we have adopted a policy of “no people food” for our dogs. This aids in training them how to behave when we’re eating, in that they don’t get any and hopefully will eventually learn to stay out of my face when we are.
This means our dogs subsist on a diet of Eukanuba Adult Formula, a “luxury” dog food (for their sensitive skin), and the occasional Bonz or other doggie treats.
Thanks for the advice John. (Foss) It didn’t hurt my dog when I give him a Frankfurt. (Small amount) And He’s in full strenght. In actual word means Full of Beans. If you saw my thread earlier I have a Whippet Dog (Part Greyhound). John, Feel free to look at my album in the gallery to see his Photo’s. Thanks for the Warning John, I know now.

Re: Human Foods Toxic To Dogs
u say the nicest things
My trainer advised me to give my dog hot dogs as treats… Just small amounts though, not the whole thing.
my little tidbit of info…
Hi Item
I never post here, but your post caught my eye. I work in a Vet Clinic and most of the stuff listed can be dangerous to your dog, but mostly will only make your dog sick. (vomit and/or runs) Chocolate, like the kind in a chocolate bar is not going to kill your dog. The chocolate used in baking however, is highly toxic to dogs and has the potential of killing your dog. Chicken bones or any kind of bones for that matter have the tendencey to splinter. (Again the kill factor, and a hefty vet bill) Even though this dog is small, I wouldnt freak out if he ate one or two grapes or ate something with garlic. But I think you should tell your Dad that people food isnt excatly meant for dogs. The occasional treat is ok. Especially if its a pug, who have a tendencey to be overweight. Pugs are notorious for their breathing problems and hip problems. Obesity is NOT going to win your pup any favours!
One thing that concerns me however, is your Dad really gonna give your dog a cigar to eat?
About the hotdogs…
Hotdogs are GREAT training treats, I call them $50 an hour treats because the dogs in my class work for me like I’m paying them $50:D
I’ve added a list of different common household plants that are dangerous to inquisitive puppies
lily of the valley
foxglove
english ivy
hyacinth
holly
morning glory
easter lily
cactus (yes, and not because its pointy;) )
daffodil
mistletoe
buttercup
azalea
nettle
cala lilly
