Hey, the new unicycle.com CrMo hubs are meant to be harder than the suzue ones- I used to use a suzue one and that took quite a beating from my 24" muni. But I use a Kris Holm one now and that is ultra strong! It was the cranks that were ther problem on the suzue, as they kept bending! But the KH ones don’t! I have an Onza 140mm set up on my trials one now though and that is pretty tough and has taken some big drops! Go to municycle.com or unicycle.com (the UK will order them from the US apparently- don’t know where you are! )to get some monty trials cranks! The Bicycle Euro ones just don’t cut it on trials or muni!
Hope this helped!
The CrMo hub you linked to will help save the hub, but it will not stop you bending cranks, which I found to be more of a problem.
Unfortunately the range of cranks for square tapered hubs like the suzue and this CrMo hub seems to be rather small, so you’re not likely to find ones that won’t break after a while. In the long run you’re going to need something splined.
In the shorter term, however, I’d use the fact that you will probably bend cranks more than hubs, and just replace the cranks when necessary. At only a tenner a pair they’re not that pricey to replace.
If you can get rolling out of drops down nicely your hub will probably last a good while yet, leaving you to replace the odd crank or two if they go while saving up for an onza or KH crankset…

I think the range of cranks available on square taper hubs is the greatest. I mean the range of lengths not the strength of cranks. The range of strong cranks is far better for splined hubs, but the selection of lengths is fewer, and I don’t know of any splined cranks less than 140mm which aren’t custom made. It really sucks breaking a hub, because you have to completely rebuild the wheel in order to replace it, costing far more than just replacing a crank (unless you are good at wheelbuilding). When you can afford it, buy a whole KH24" unicycle rather than just the hub, that way you get the brake mounts and cool frame and stuff too. Or else the KH20" trials one if that’s what you are into.
Although the Profile cranks go down only to 145 (or is it 140), Profile does have 10 different lengths for sale that are compatible with the Profile hub. I think that’s probably the most of any crank that’s even remotely suitable for unicycling.
Profile has at least 12 lengths available, but only 4 are suitable for unicycling that I know of, and 7 of them are too long in my opinion. This is the list of Profile crank lengths, as found on the side of the box my second Profiles came in:
155mm, 165mm, 170mm, 172.5mm, 175mm, 177mm, 177.5mm, 180mm, 182mm, 190mm, Other
It had a tick by other, and someone wrote 145mm. I suspect 150 and 160 are also available, but I’m not sure. I’m pretty sure there is a wider range of lengths available in square taper cranks, ranging from 89mm to (maybe) 170mm which is more of a useful range than 145mm to 170mm. KH cranks are currently available in only 140mm and 170 (which are two good sizes) but maybe more sizes will come out soon. When I said about the splined crank lengths being limited, I forgot about the Qu-ax ones, as I think they come shorter than Profiles or KH cranks. I guess there is not really a big need for tiny splined cranks because for a speed unicycle you usually don’t need all the strongest parts, because they would just weigh it down.
You can also get 160mm Profile cranks. I’ve got a pair.
If you don’t like the stock lengths for Profile cranks you can shorten them. Check out this thread:

126mm Profile cranks.
Is that cool or what?
You can get some fairly decent cranks for square tapered hubs! I’ve heard Monty ones are fairly tough and the Shimano Deores (I think they only do 170mm tho), but it probably is best to save up for a splined hub and crank set I have the Onza on my Trials and KH on my Muni, and I think they’re stronger, so I may wait til I bust my Onza and get either a profile or KH one! Apparently the new KHs are meant to be rock solid!
i just hope i get a load of money on the 25th of next month then i will get an onza set thank god for christmas
