Hi, i just recently started out in street and flat and I was wondering what you should do to work your way up from not knowing anything to being a okish unicyclist… Thanks , graydon
Start off by learning some easy tricks on flat. Once you’ve got them dialed you can apply the to street. For example: if you can 180 easy on flat you can then stat doing 180’s off a curb. Once you can do that you can progress to an infinite amount of things such as stairs, drops or grinds.
Start working through this list:

Here’s a great list of skills with video demonstration:

Good luck!
Some street basics are going to be hopping up and down ledges, hop twists, unispins, pedal grabs/grind, and crankflips. All of these can be worked on slowly by attempting them in parts, instead of going all-out and trying to do the whole trick right away.
For example with unispins you can start with just jumping off the pedals, and landing on the ground. Then you can upgrade to a tire grab aerial, then a normal aerial, then to a unispin but land on the ground instead of on the uni, then eventually you go for the full trick once you’re comfortable with the rest!
Taking this kind of approach to tricks is safer, and makes you better in the long run, because you’ve refined the smaller skills. It’s not as gratifying, but if you’re patient, when you get to the end you’ll be landing them quite consistently. Also it gives you a larger trick arsenal because you’re good at doing specific parts of tricks, which comes in handy, especially when other tricks share a same move.
It’s hard to learn if you injure yourself, so safe locations and good protective gear are advised for both safety and confidence.
I can fairly easily 180 hop but i cant ride backwards for mire then 3-7 revs… I started jumping up and off a ledge about 1 and 1/2 feet tall and i got it second try. There is a foot or two of snow right now so im stuck riding in my basement
If you’re stuck in a confined space, you can always work on universally useful skills like stillstands, idling, stuff like that. All that stuff comes in handy. Unispins are actually pretty easy to practice inside too, if you have enough space that you won’t smash nearby things.
I have 15 feet by 8 feet… not bad but there is workers there 4 hrs a day…I cannot bring myself to leave the pedals and I really need to commit. I can do 10-30 idles but I fall after that.
