How TO: install (lace) spokes and rim?

Any information is very welcome,
I would like to know the idea behind doing that…

Thanks,
Oded.

Step 1: take the rim and hub to an experienced wheel builder.
Step 2: tell him to lace the wheel
Step 3: go home
Step 4: Come back when told to
Step 5: pick up the wheel, and pay the man
Step 6: go home
Step 7: put it on your uni

There is most of the information that you need (or links to it) in Neil’s
spoke calculator program:

look at

for instructions on how to build and tension the wheel. Personally I don’t
like his stress relieving method, my wheel still creaked lots after I did
it, I suggest putting the wheel on it’s side and treading / jumping on it
although not too hard.

It might seem really obvious to everyone except me, but when you’re truing a
wheel, never ever do it with pedals / cranks attached as the wheel will
wobble a fair bit as it spins round making it look a lot less true than it
is.

To work out what length spokes you need use either the calculator at
http://www.unicycle.uk.com/SpokeCalc.asp
if the rim & hub are on there, or use the excel spreadsheet from

Be careful if you’re using unicycle hub data from Roger’s calculator in
another calculator as the width figure in that one is twice the width used
by other calculators (which use the centre to flange width rather than the
flange to flange width of the hub).

I think most people use three cross lacing for 36 hole wheels, except for
very small wheels like the monty / onza trials wheels where they use 2
cross, I used 4 cross for my 48 hole 700c wheel.
