In France we presently have a blockbuster (17 millions people in just 5 weeks).
The name of the picture is “Bienvenue chez les ch’tis”. (for those who understand french).
Now you are not going to see this picture any time soon: it is So typically french that we can’t export that (except to Belgium and Switzerland).
But hollywood is very apt at smelling money so I bet you will get a “remake”.
May be the storyline could be:
a middle manager from Louisiana wants so dearly to get a job in sunny Florida (may be in a hotel?) … that he gets promoted so some dreary place in the RustBelt!
After all he will discover that the hearts there are so warm that you can survive and be happy!
(you can even have some town in the rustbelt pour some money in the venture so it can get some publicity !).
Perhaps as an over generalization, it seems in the movies - schlocky ones at least - that urban types who are thrown into rural settings always come to love their new surroundings while rural types craving the excitement of the city always find themselves with a new appreciation for their roots. Either way cities end up being the fall guy.
Of course, that and everyone loves ethnic cooking.
cuirously that was not the storyline in the original since it was about coming from small town in the south to small town in the North.
but you are right: it’s “ethnic” !
