How to avoid overdoing it?

I believe it was in the beginning of August I began to notice this pain in my
hip when I bent it in certain ways. This isn’t that bad, I can ride through
this? Sure! Anyway, it just got worse. After a while I stopped thinking of
how cool it would be to complete a trials line, but rather how much pain it
would induce, but that did not really stop me! At least not in the beginning.
I decided to take a break and I saw a chiropractor who suggested that exercise
was good for my back. So I was right back in my trials park and this time I
was using anti-inflammatory drugs to keep the pain down. Two weeks ago my
brother convinced me to stay away from unicycling for a month. I stayed away
from unicycling for two weeks, that’s pretty much my record! My birthday was
coming up and well, I had to go for a birthday ride, and the next day there
was snow outside for the first time and I easily got 4 hours of riding in or
so. And I really had to practice my seat out hopping too. And now after four
days of riding I’m pretty much back where I started. Sigh.

  1. My chiropractor believed that I had acquired sciatica from muscle
inflexibilty in my back and some leg length difference.

Hello Ulf,

Sorry to hear about the pain, especially that it seems to be aggravated by uni’ing. I am leery of chiropractors, especially with the classic ‘difference in leg length’ diagnosis. Not that I know anything about the practice.

Sounds like good advise from your brother. Glad that your back on the wheel.
