The basic fee from the feds in the US is $355 to $710, depending on which
category you’re in (probably $355 for a small business). If there are any
wrinkles along the way there are more fees to iron them out.

Note that the fee is the same whether or not your application is approved
– so you really are better off paying some sort of licensed professional
to do it for you because (a) they’ll research your trademark first to make
sure it doesn’t conflict with another one (and can adjust it to work
around the conflict) and (b) they’ll avoid other errors that are
guaranteed to get your application rejected (and they’ve got liability
insurance :-).

If you do it yourself, you should find a good book on how to do it and
all the pitfalls to avoid – otherwise you may just be flushing $355 down
the toilet

Check the yellow pages (or yahoo) under “trademarks” – it’s probably only
a couple hundred bucks more to get someone to do it for you (and the
amount of time you put into it to save that couple hundred bucks may not
be worth it).

What makes trademarks difficult isn’t the money (I think it’s around 400
bucks or so in the U.S.), but gaining the approval to actually claim the
trademark.

Here’s one – $239 to research a trademark and $180 to do the =
application (two day turnaround on each)

Don’t know who they are or what their qualifiations are, but they look =
alot better than the other trademark affiliate programs I found.
