How many people Muni??

Add me to the list…I think.

I now own a muni…There are not many places to “MUni” as in “mountain unicycle” around here. I tend to do more trials and street (street as in tricks off of drops and gaps, doing grinds that kinda stuff). Does all that automaticaly fall under MUni? It feels like it should. You seem to be attempting to pull a number out between people who use the uni for juggling and freestyle, or commuting v.s. people who use the uni for painful self mutilation.

(to be fair, I tend to get the more sereous injurys practising freestyle skills, though the millions of cuts and bruises on my shins and knees are starting to look like one giant sereous injury…)

Re: How many people Muni??

I would guess that there approximately 1000 in the UK alone! France has a
good chunk as well, they even have a large dedicated Muni club and
association. Italy I would put next on the list with a thriving band of Muni
riders, there then Germany with it’s vast number of unicyclists there must
be at least 250 muni riders there, then you have Sweden, Switzerland etc.
Most Muni riders ride for them selves and are not part of an association or
group.
The people who go to IJA would not have seen muni, it is not their area at
all. Why should they see what people do out side of the hall, they rarely
get out side from what I can tell, different set.

I MUni, and my son, and his 2 mates, that’s four. Or at least I do what I would call MUni. In the UK a mountain must be over 600 m (1969 feet) or over 300 m (984 feet) if it’s an abrupt difference in the local topography and we don’t have allot of mountains so we use hills but I don’t HUni

Cheers, Gary

hi huni! i’m mome!

AUSTRALIAN Muni Riders; 2?

I am one of the 2 serious MUni riders in Oz. Gabe Holmic and I have
competed in Polaris (multi-day off road cylcing event), both have very
customised unis- Gabes has disc brake, mine only a V. We have snow tyres
and rode in the snow last year.

It is possible that there are other riders in Melbourne or something, but
this off road thing is very slow to catch on. Australia has only just got
it’s National club together. Maybe it’s because Australia is an old
continent, with not that many serious hills, but long distances between
them…

Re: Re: How many people Muni??

I seem to remember seeing some posts from somebody in Perth. I know WA is pretty much as flat as a pancake, but there must be somewhere you can do Muni. I should be moving to Perth sometime within the next year so hopefully there’s something there to keep me entertained.

Have fun!

Debbie Hyder from Darwin came to BUC9 and discovered
muni. Debbie bought a MAX traction from Roger to take home
with her, so I guess she got serious about it in a hurry. I think
she plans to introduce the sport to the local kids…
