How many and what kind?

Two 20” QA-AX Luxus (after buying the first one I soon got a second one as I was learning together with my 2 daughters)
One 27.5” QA-AX Muni, no brake
One 20” QA-AX Trials / Muni (initially borrowed, later bought, for my adventurous youngest daughter to join in the Muni practice)
One 24" QA-Ax Muni, no brake. Picked up yesterday, still to be unboxed.

And I purchased a Magura HS33 rim brake set to mount onto the 27.5"

5+3+1

I have 5 unicycles that I use, 3 for my girl(s) and 1 extra (24" muni for future for my wife and/or girls):
Most are in my signature:
19" Trials Impact Athmos
20" Qu-Ax Profi Freestyle, 89mm VCX (new Nov 2018)
24" Koxx, Duro (my first unicycle, which I was going to sell, but my wife wanted me to keep it as she might want to ride it – hasn’t happened yet, but no complaints about not selling it and not I want to keep it for my girls in the future anyway. I had removed the pedals so it was unridable for over a year, but restored it for a friend)
26" Nimbus, Duro, outboard 160mm disc Dbrake (hardly ride it, but bring it to major muni/downhill events as my spare parts and my bail-out uni in case I think something is too steep, but in about 5 events in 2 years always ridden the 29")
29+ KH, Maxxis DHR II 29x3.0, 180mm disc
36" Nimbus Oracle 200mm disc (VCX 100/125/150)

For my girls I have:
16" cut-down for 4-year old
18"
20"
My 6 year old now switches between the 16" and 18" and sometimes tries the 20" on which she barely fits. I originally cut the 16" down for my now 6-year-old when she was 4 and now it is close to too small (but it of course fits for my 4 year old, who sits on it but can’t yet ride).

Possible additions:
Freewheel muni (probably 26")
Schlumpf (probably 29" or maybe 26" but wouldn’t fit in my Oracle)
27.5" (I’ve been using my 29+ for downhill much more than my 26" but sometimes for really steep technical stuff it feels a bit large, and as the 26" feels to small, maybe the 27.5" would be just right, but actually never tried one)

Updating my list as Bouin-Bouin sold me a freestyle 20" which I just used at the Geneva 2 day class - great event by the way. Now I need access to an indoor place to work on riding the 20" during the winter months!
Also, I won’t make a spare uni for my parents’ place, as it’s been sold, and the parents are no longer… :frowning:
So currently:

 • KH 24" 2012 with 137mm cranks, disc brake,
 • KH 29" Road Uni with 125mm cranks with a first gen Schlumpf hub and Magura brakes,
 • Nimbus "Black Friday" Oracle 32" with 125mm cranks, disc brake,
 • QU'AX 36" with 125/150mm cranks, disc brake,
 • Nimbus 24" Basketball Uni with 110mm cranks,
 • Nimbus 20" Eclipse Freestyle Uni with 89mm cranks -currently some 100mm-,
 • FranKHenstein 29" Muni with Nimbus hub, Impact Seat post and 125mm cranks, US resident,
 • 24" Muni with 150mm cranks (shared with above muni) made from parts I had, just bought a Nimbus rim and a Specialized tire.

and past:

 • Nimbus 20" Equinox Freestyle Uni with 100mm cranks, sold because I was not really using it much,
 • Nimbus II 24" Muni with 150mm cranks, back in the saddle uni! Bought in 2011 in the same shop as NoName below, sold when KH24" came for Xmas,
 • Kahero 20" basic uni, bought to work on beginner's skills, sold a couple of months later when bought Nimbus 20",
 • Impact 19" Trials, 140mm Eiffel cranks, sold because gathering dust, running out of space, and needing an excuse to finance the Schlumpf hub,
 • NoName Chrome Shitty 20", bought in 1996, first attempt at uni, rode but never proficiently, disappeared in a garage fire circa 2000.

Cut up ur tricycle and you have 3 more unis instead.:stuck_out_tongue:

I figure significant others probably start seeing it as a problem at about the fifth one, for someone who didn’t already have them.

In my case, I had a lot of them before I had her, so they had some sort of legacy thing. I’m incredibly lucky that she chose me, warts and all, with all my “baggage”. Hanging them from the ceiling definitely helps; when done properly, they don’t take up any floor space. It helps to have a high ceiling in your garage. :sunglasses:

UPDATED

I have too many unicycles, Here is the list with prices and why I got them:

Trainer 24 (NOK 1 300)

UDC Sweden recomended this as an adult learner - collecting dust now.

Qu-Ax Cross 29 (NOK 2 000)

Felt I needed something between 24 and 36 (wich was my ultimate goal). I later chopped down the frame to make it fit my oldest kid. Collecting dust now, but my youngest kid might need it in a couple of years.

UPDATE: I gave this one away

Nimbus Nightrider Impulse Disc 36 (NOK 6 000)

36’er was my reason to get into unicyling. This was the coolest one on the market in my opinion. Still my main 36’er.

KH 26 (NOK 4000)

Maybe try Muni? Yes, let’s get a KH26. Timoteusmunk uses it when he is visiting Norway. Otherwise collecting dust.

UPDATE: I gave this one away

Schlumpf hub (NOK 10 000)

I really wanted to try this, and it would also be great to get to my trail head on a schlumped KH26. Collecting dust now, but I might put it in a 29’er later.

In use in a 29 guni

KH 29 (NOK 4 000)

For winter riding with a studded tyre. Wanted something better than the Qu-Ax even though the Qu-Ax was just fine. I use it mainly in the winter.

Dodger 12 (NOK 900)

Got it for my oldest kid, but none of my kids managed to learn to ride on this one. I got a few videos out of it. Fun to ride.

Only One 16 (NOK 700)

Both kids learned on this. Easier to ride than the Dodger. Other kids use it from time to time.

KH 20 (NOK 3 500)

Wanted something I could bring with me on holidays. The kids use it too. (I have two sets with seatposts/seats)

Oracle 24 (NOK 4 000)

Wanted a smaller wheel and a wider tyre for muni than the KH26. Collecting dust, but it’s back up for the bigger 26’er brother
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwQ3x53plIQ)

Bulit a freewheel for the O24, so this is now my freewheel unicycle
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGXwDENeep8)

KH 36 (NOK 3 200)

I’ve had som problems with the Nimbus 36, and therfore needed a back up. Hate being without a 36’er. Got the KH for a great price. Timoteusmunk uses it too.

Oracle 26 (NOK 4 000)

I like the Oracle 24, but wanted something bigger. Put on a Surly Knard . Great uni.

Unknown 20 (NOK 150)

Second hand. Got this for my youngest kid. Painted it purple and put on a pink tyre. She loves it.

Nimbus Hatchet fat 26 (NOK 9 000)

Couldn’t resist. No dust, only mud on this one.

Qu-Ax 20 -red hub (NOK 600)

I needed another 20" for my youngest kid, so we can all go muni together. Second hand.

KH 20 (NOK 300)

Second hand. Picked it up today. Older model, scratched but otherwise in good condition. Saddle, seatclamp, pedals not original. The reason for buying this was the price: $ 35

Unknown 20 (NOK 100)

Second hand. Crap. Used it in a video:

KH 29 Schlumpf

Wanted to try a geared unicycle again. Built it myself. Mostly KH parts.

Nimbus Oracle 32

I ordered it one hour ago for the kids. To good a deal to let it pass. (51% off on Black Friday)

UPDATE: Was that 2yrs ago? I’ve never ridden it myself

UPDATE:

Flansberrium 27.5

Built it myself
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9KhBw8F3vw)

5 ft Giraffe

Got it cheap ($29) Haven’t tried it yet

The updates are from memory. Maybe there are more? I hope not.

I have only one unicycle. What’s in the future? No idea.

I don’t think I will buy a trial, freestyle, muni or 36" (big wheel) road uni in the future. But I am interested in EUC (electric unicycles). However, I saw one video where it took like almost 2 and a half hours just to change the tires. :astonished:

I ended up watching the whole 2 hours plus video. :o

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4kT-R_u0rVs

Electric unicycles are like cheating and those don’t give you an accomplished feeling. Maybe a little bit, but not as much as when you learned to ride a 36" unicycle. Riding Non-electric unicycles comes with a lot of victories and feelings like “YAAAY I did it!!” Personally I also think that an electrical uni can be fun in the beginning. Very quickly it will become boring and after a year you won’t touch it anymore.

I’m keeping my 20" UDC club. Need to learn freemount, idle and maybe later backwards figure 8. Still plenty of things to accomplish.

Check out this “real” electric unicycle. It is quite an accomplishment.

20" - with 75mm cranks…zoom zoom
20" - with 90mm cranks… more general and good for hockey
24" - with 138mm cranks… Kris Holm muni; just lovely
26" - 125/150 cranks - Nimbus, it’s nice
29" - 110mm - road tire, good for portable commuting
36" - 114mm - zoom zoom… handlebar, waterbottle cage, tail light

6 foot, 20" giraffe - who I’m flying
20" freewheel w. disc brake - how do you ride this thing?

Amazing tech. No doubt.
But just watching the video makes my spine tingle in anticipation of a crash. Not that I think I would ever be able to ride something like this - - - I know that I could not run out a UPD at 30+ km/h. :astonished:

Yep that would hurt! I barely outrun a 27.5 with 138’s at full tilt!

Ah yeah forgot about that one. That was really cool. All those technical dudes that can make the coolest contraptions. I wouldn’t even know where to start. I’m in software not hardware. Typing with 2 left hands is no problem.

Gotta Love this !

Mine too. After all these years of attaining faster speeds I am considering selling my Schlumpf and 36" Uni’s so I never have to try and outrun a UPD ever again!

That thing is amazing. I got to play with it a bit at the 2010 Muni Weekend in Vancouver. It’s still a “real” unicycle, but with power assist. So you have to ride within your limits, but you don’t have to work as hard. Justin spent years tweaking it since then, and I can’t imagine what improvements he’s made since then.

If your me, for very short distances.

Neither could anybody else, I think. In my younger days I wouldn’t think twice about doing that, but now, not so much. :astonished:

Update, after changing and moving around cranks, tires, brake and handle bar.

Two 20” QA-AX Luxus (after buying the first one I soon got a second one as I was learning together with my 2 daughters)
20” QA-AX Trials / Muni (initially borrowed, later bought, for my adventurous youngest daughter to join in the Muni practice)
24" QA-Ax Muni, Duro WildLife leopard 3” tire, dual hole cranks 125/145mm
27.5” QA-AX Muni, Specialised Ground Control 3” tire, dual hole cranks 110/136mm, Magura HS33 rim brake, Qu-Ax handle bar

Exchange parts:
Maxxis High Roller II 2.4” tire with inner tube
Kids saddle for Luxus with short seat post.
2 sets of 145mm cranks

A list of the unicycles I currently own:

19” Nimbus trials - bought secondhand, and I had to replace all the spokes. The original spokes just kept breaking. I use it for learning skills. I put a nice new fluoro orange nimbus frame on for it.

20” Nimbus - I use it for hockey. So much smoother than an Aldi 20”. Very happy with that buy. I got some vouchers for participating in Australian UniNats and that wheel (plus a few extra dollars) was a result of those voucher wins.

24” no name (bought secondhand)- the uni I used when I first started riding places. This was bought secondhand. Now if I ride it, I think it’s squirrelly due to riding other unis but it was/is perfectly ok as a beginner uni. Very lightweight and transportable. Just have to stop riding if ever the crank starts getting loose.

24” Club - Solid beginner uni. Very dependable. Bought secondhand. Recommended and I still commonly use it to go to the station for work.

24” KH Muni - bought secondhand. Good Muni for technical tracks and beginner muni. I find I get some camber issues with it, that might be the tyre. I like to ride this one too for skills improvement. For example, it was the first uni I tried doing a stair type ride on, the jump mounts. I was proud when I was able to show random people outside a MTB track park my riding, hopping, riding skills on it in public for the first time!

27.5” URC Muni - this was an amazing uni the first time I ever rode it! Felt so light weight for a larger wheel. Good for local fire trail but also I like to ride it on road too. I feel it’s a good size for me.

29” Nimbus - I bought secondhand off a guy who thought he wanted to learn to unicycle on quality unicycles. Eventually he decided to give it up, but only after buying both a brand new KH 19” trials and this 29” nimbus brand new. The tyre diameter is only very slightly larger than the 27.5” muni. So, I got this in new condition.

What I have previously owned:
A number of 20” Aldis. Ok, I might still own some, (all out on loan) but they are not great. They also start to rust quite quickly. Totally fine as loaners and for learners though.

20” 5 foot giraffe - Bought secondhand, I rode it a couple of times, but then one time I wanted to dismount it, when my foot got to the ground I rolled my ankle, ended up going to hospital to get it checked out (I couldn’t walk) and ended up having ankle surgery! I ended up selling it to a more accomplished and much younger unicyclist  . I found it a huge struggle to mount too.

19” KH Longneck. Bought off that guy who decided to buy 2 great new unis and then failed to learn lol. I sold it, only because someone was very keen to own this uni and I was happy with the price. Otherwise, I would have kept it.

24” no name I bought secondhand. It was hard to ride/control. Might have been the tyre or something? It became the front wheel of a mini penny farthing

2x no name 26”. The first 26” no name (that I bought secondhand) was a good to ride uni for me, I really enjoyed that wheel (I had a great tyre put on it, rode down to see the Sydney fireworks end of 2018 on it and it was the first uni I mastered riding 2 handed on, I felt really stable on it) but then I got hit by a car while riding it at night (car was being driven on the wrong side of the road) and the wheel got bent. :frowning: The car driver paid for me to have a replacement. Anyway, I ended up selling because with my 24’s and 27.5, I figured the low end 26ers are/were surplus to my requirements. The main reason for selling was the square taper axles on these low end unis are not that solid, and I’d rather just stick to the better quality unis.

26” hunirex - it and I just did not get along. The chain slack was annoying, the Q factor was weird, it’s extremely heavy… if I persevered a bit more I reckon I would have been ok with it, but I gave up. The 36er was a much more enjoyable ride, the 36er would respond exactly as you control it whereas the hunirex was a lot harder because your centre of the pedalling is below the centre of the wheel.

36” KH - Bought secondhand, I had to put it together, including spoking and trueing. It was the first wheel I ever put together. I enjoyed riding it in Denmark and for any long fairly straight paths with no stops but I really struggled with freemounting this uni (my leap up just tends to fall that tiny bit short) and so I sold it. I would use tyre grab mount but that became an unsuitable method with handlebars attached. My leg length on it was marginal too.

Anyway, you can see they were all pretty much secondhand except 2 Aldis, a nimbus 20" freestyle wheel, the hunirex (regret that purchase), a low end 26er and the URC (Mad4One).

I am interested in having a freewheel uni. One day! And maybe a 32” uni

Right then. My current selection:

Impact Gravity (stock)
Purchased to replace my first Koxx/KH trials unicycle which I sold when I was short on cash and after I hadn’t ridden it for a few years. I regret that sale to this day as it was a lovely 32h white Koxx wheel, an immaculate KH20 longneck frame, and a white Impact saddle.
The Impact Gravity now hasn’t been ridden in >2 years.

KH24
My third unicycle, purchased about a decade ago to get back into MUni after I sold my first Qu-Ax to buy the aforementioned Koxx White Widow (stock at the time).
It’s currently got 2005 HS33s and a Holly Roller tyre with lightweight tube and is great fun on social rides for street or on hard-packed ground.
I’ve got a 24x3 Duro Wildlife Leopard tyre for it as well, but that rarely sees any use these days as it’s so heavy.

KH29
After a few years the 24" was definitely getting too small as I was doing some commuting so I got this 29". It’s gone through a few variations from a MUni with HS33s, to an internal disk hub and a d’brake, then my first 29" freewheel, and now back to a road going machine with no brakes. I’m kind of keeping it around as a loaner now, and I have another HS33 to put back on it as group events start to be a thing again and it gets lent out.

KH36 with T-bar
My regular commuting unicycle, purchased to replace a very similar slightly older model that was stolen.
For a while this was a 32" (when the original Kent wheel was being used, and then the 32" Nimbus wheel), but the release of the 36" Nightrider Lite made the 32" unnecessary for my uses.
Currently got a somewhat broken brake, but I’m still riding it when I need to go somewhere.

Freewheel 26/32" in QX frame
I got this frame after deciding that the KH 29" with vibrating d’brake really was not a suitable freewheel option, and then wanting to experiment with freewheel road riding made the 32" swap a no-brainer.
I also decided that 29" was a little large for the kind of freewheel Muni I wanted to try, so I stole a 26" wheel from an old Nimbus Muni, which is my current freewheel setup.

Qu-Ax RGB 27.5
Lockdown got me keen to get back into MUni when possible, but I realised my current option (KH24) was too small and slow when I like to ride faster now. With Brexit, I was a little limited by budget to only things sold in the UK (to avoid 34%+ on import - VAT+duties + fee) and UDC UK had this in stock. Otherwise I’d probably have gone Mad4One, or custom RGB direct from Qu-Ax.
I’ve not ridden it much yet, and due to some slightly miscommunication the 145mm cranks were longer than the 137s I was expecting, but it’s a nice ride and I’m looking forward to using it over the summer.
When the freewheel Qu-Ax hub arrives I’ll definitely get some 137 cranks too, and this frame might play wheel swapsies.

20" Nimbus/mixed BC wheel
This one was built because I could. Someone was selling the Nimbus plates for cheap many years ago and then I slowly collected up other parts to make it useable.
I’ve not actually learnt to ride it yet, and it now has a slightly silly stretched tyre on a very wide (70mm) drift trike rim, but one day…
It’s very heavy so I’m also (stupidly really), considering some K1 plates.

Club/loaner unicycles
With plans to start a unicycling club before the pandemic, I’d been collecting up a selection of unicycles. At last count I think I have around 20 for this purpose, with a couple more offered to me but not yet collected.
From memory I think I’ve got one old 36" with a frame welded to take a bike saddle, 2 Club 24" freestyle, 2 or 3 Club 20", a handful of chrome 16", 20" and 24" leaners from UDC, and a selection of older cycles (20-26"), including two with cotter pin cranks. There’s also a 5’ giraffe and another Club 24" (if I remember correctly) that are awaiting collection/delivery.
Oh, and I’ve also just added a 12" Qu-Ax for any tiny kids who wish to have a go.

A few of these are currently out on loan, and we’re approaching the time where I’ll start looking at venues again, and organising group rides and possibly try-out events.

Parts
I’ve got at least a spare Dominator 29" rim, a spare 36" Stealth 2, a Nimbus 26" Muni missing a wheel (as I nabbed it for the freewheel), and a load of random/spare tyres, saddles, spokes, cranks, pedals etc.

ALDI Crane 20" (No Longer Have)
First unicycle bought from ALDI which I learned to ride for 6 months. It got a flat tyre in far north Queensland Kurumba while I was on a road trip with my Dad. When looking for some stuff to repair it in Mt Isa I saw they were selling a unicycle in their store so I just bought that one and since space was tight I left them the uni so it’s probably in a landfill by now.

DRS 20"
Unicycle I bought in Mt Isa while on a roadtrip across Australia. Was great to have a small uni that I could pull out whenever and where ever to ride. It’s a pretty poor unicycle like the crane for all accounts but it was better then nothing.

Nimbus 29"
My first real unicycle I bought new the moment I finished my road trip. Was a huge step up from a 20" and I had to cut the seat post to be able to mount and ride it at all. It has a Duro Crux tyre that is 3.25" wide and I rode this one for at least another 6 months before getting my next unicycle. I also added a KH T-Bar to this cycle too.

Custom 20" 6’ Giraffe
Saw this one being advertised locally for $30 so I snapped it up. It’s made from old BMX parts and extremely heavy. I was not able to ride it initially due to the sheer weight of it. Once I got better on a lighter giraffe I did manage to ride this one although I bent the seat post while doing so. Now days it lives in my shed, if anyone wants it they are welcome to it.

Kris Holm 36"
Around this time I was always watching the 2nd hand market for unicycles and I came across this one being sold interstate. I had previously missed out one 36" being sold locally before this one and got it at a good price. This was another huge jump for me for both riding and mounting and took me months to master as I changed crank lengths. It’s also the first unicycle to severely injure myself on as I took a fall at 34km/hr once without knee/hand protection downhill. Now days I wear protection for riding 36" and 29" when doing muni. I did repurpose the KH T-Bar from the 29" to this unicycle. This is my main commuting unicycle which I use to go to any place I feel is too close to drive to.

DRS 20" 5’ Giraffe
My first proper giraffe that wasn’t home made taught me a lot about how to ride a giraffe. I rode it many places and it was the first giraffe I learned to free mount. I found this one interstate as well, at first the owner wasn’t interested in posting. After a few weeks they changed their mind and shipped it to me.

Nimbus Performer 20" 5-7’ Convertible Giraffe
I saw this one advertised for a while I wasn’t that interested at the time so I figured I’d just make an offer on it and I was surprised when they accepted. I’m glad I did buy it as it’s an excellent giraffe, it’s well built with double chains and feels very responsive. It’s my current go to giraffe now and I really love how portable it is when dismantled as other giraffes are a real hassle to transport.

Kris Holm 36" with Schlumpf
While practising some muni at some mountain bike trails I ran into a really friendly mountain biker. We got to talking and he mentioned he used to unicycle 10 years ago. He said he had a geared one and asked if I’d like to try it. I was intrigued so I gave it a shot and after a while he offered it to me at a price I could not refuse and now I have 2x 36" unicycles. I later added a Nimbus Shadow Handle and Air Saddle to this uni and it’s now my goto commuter unicycle. I’m much better at changing gears then before and can now get some decent speed on it. It has pretty much replaced my old KH36" as my main commuter now.
