A list of the unicycles I currently own:
19” Nimbus trials - bought secondhand, and I had to replace all the spokes. The original spokes just kept breaking. I use it for learning skills. I put a nice new fluoro orange nimbus frame on for it.
20” Nimbus - I use it for hockey. So much smoother than an Aldi 20”. Very happy with that buy. I got some vouchers for participating in Australian UniNats and that wheel (plus a few extra dollars) was a result of those voucher wins.
24” no name (bought secondhand)- the uni I used when I first started riding places. This was bought secondhand. Now if I ride it, I think it’s squirrelly due to riding other unis but it was/is perfectly ok as a beginner uni. Very lightweight and transportable. Just have to stop riding if ever the crank starts getting loose.
24” Club - Solid beginner uni. Very dependable. Bought secondhand. Recommended and I still commonly use it to go to the station for work.
24” KH Muni - bought secondhand. Good Muni for technical tracks and beginner muni. I find I get some camber issues with it, that might be the tyre. I like to ride this one too for skills improvement. For example, it was the first uni I tried doing a stair type ride on, the jump mounts. I was proud when I was able to show random people outside a MTB track park my riding, hopping, riding skills on it in public for the first time!
27.5” URC Muni - this was an amazing uni the first time I ever rode it! Felt so light weight for a larger wheel. Good for local fire trail but also I like to ride it on road too. I feel it’s a good size for me.
29” Nimbus - I bought secondhand off a guy who thought he wanted to learn to unicycle on quality unicycles. Eventually he decided to give it up, but only after buying both a brand new KH 19” trials and this 29” nimbus brand new. The tyre diameter is only very slightly larger than the 27.5” muni. So, I got this in new condition.
What I have previously owned:
A number of 20” Aldis. Ok, I might still own some, (all out on loan) but they are not great. They also start to rust quite quickly. Totally fine as loaners and for learners though.
20” 5 foot giraffe - Bought secondhand, I rode it a couple of times, but then one time I wanted to dismount it, when my foot got to the ground I rolled my ankle, ended up going to hospital to get it checked out (I couldn’t walk) and ended up having ankle surgery! I ended up selling it to a more accomplished and much younger unicyclist . I found it a huge struggle to mount too.
19” KH Longneck. Bought off that guy who decided to buy 2 great new unis and then failed to learn lol. I sold it, only because someone was very keen to own this uni and I was happy with the price. Otherwise, I would have kept it.
24” no name I bought secondhand. It was hard to ride/control. Might have been the tyre or something? It became the front wheel of a mini penny farthing
2x no name 26”. The first 26” no name (that I bought secondhand) was a good to ride uni for me, I really enjoyed that wheel (I had a great tyre put on it, rode down to see the Sydney fireworks end of 2018 on it and it was the first uni I mastered riding 2 handed on, I felt really stable on it) but then I got hit by a car while riding it at night (car was being driven on the wrong side of the road) and the wheel got bent. The car driver paid for me to have a replacement. Anyway, I ended up selling because with my 24’s and 27.5, I figured the low end 26ers are/were surplus to my requirements. The main reason for selling was the square taper axles on these low end unis are not that solid, and I’d rather just stick to the better quality unis.
26” hunirex - it and I just did not get along. The chain slack was annoying, the Q factor was weird, it’s extremely heavy… if I persevered a bit more I reckon I would have been ok with it, but I gave up. The 36er was a much more enjoyable ride, the 36er would respond exactly as you control it whereas the hunirex was a lot harder because your centre of the pedalling is below the centre of the wheel.
36” KH - Bought secondhand, I had to put it together, including spoking and trueing. It was the first wheel I ever put together. I enjoyed riding it in Denmark and for any long fairly straight paths with no stops but I really struggled with freemounting this uni (my leap up just tends to fall that tiny bit short) and so I sold it. I would use tyre grab mount but that became an unsuitable method with handlebars attached. My leg length on it was marginal too.
Anyway, you can see they were all pretty much secondhand except 2 Aldis, a nimbus 20" freestyle wheel, the hunirex (regret that purchase), a low end 26er and the URC (Mad4One).
I am interested in having a freewheel uni. One day! And maybe a 32” uni
