A big thanks again to all the teams that took part in last Saturdays Hockey tournament in Liverpool.
We had nine teams taking part on the day, plus one scratch team. The scratch team was made up from players already playing for other teams on the day, so we couldn’t count their points in the overall table. Apart from Zyl, all the scratch team players varied from game to game. Thanks Zyl for helping out.
Just in case anyone was wondering - all the fixtures were worked out beforehand for 10 teams, with everyone playing each other. Unfortunately one of the teams had to pull out at the last minute, so we needed to make up that 10th team somehow. It all worked out well in the end, because anyone that wanted to play more hockey could.
The DUC photographer was taking photos throughout the afternoon, so as soon as I receive them I’ll forward onto a member of each team, so you can distribute as require. If you wish to receive a copy of the photos then please PM me one address from each of the teams please.
Just totting up the goals scored throughout the afternoon - it worked out at a massive 268. No wonder the EMUs won the tournament, as they only conceded 9 goals in the 8 games they played. A superb effort and congratulations to them. It was a close second with Tholthorpe though - only goal difference separating the two in the end.
I would also like to thank all teams for taking their turn in refereeing games during the afternoon and for ensuring that all games had a fast turn round.
It just goes to show, it’s the taking part that means so much more than winning. Literally, all teams were spread out around the UK and so had long journey times to get to Liverpool. An an example, Southampton traveled the furthest and unfortunately lost all their games, but all their players had a great afternnoon. Thank you to everyone for your positive feeback after the tournament had finished.
A big thanks to Stuart for sorting out the trophies. I hope the EMUs, Tholthorpe and the LUnis like them.
See you all at the next DUC tournament - dates to be finalised yet, but it will be early next year.
