today i was ridin home from school…5 min ride only crossing 2 streets…but anyway. i was riding across the street and i car came up around the corner and clipped the back of my wheel on his way by. i wasnt hurt but i did fall of and slide a bit the i got up and asked the guy how he could have hit me(he had a red light) and he was like “well maybe if you had a real (bleepin) bike then you wouldnt have got hit”. the he promptly drove away. my unicycle wasnt hurt and niether was i but still. some people are so inconsiderate.
well at least you and your unicycle weren’t damaged.
Did you get his license plate and report him to the police? If someone hit me, even if I wasn’t hurt, there would be a police report.
nope he was gone like a flsh and i was dimbstruck by his lack of consideration…he didnt even ask if i was ok.
cuh razy. he tried you.
sue him! (filling)
dude thats sucks! What a jerk, i REALLY hate inconsiderate jerks. You didn’t get anything to ID him or his car?? You could get him in a lot of trouble for hit and run…maybe a sweet new uni or a settlement.
better yet … did anyone witness …?
Glad your OK.
yeah a few of my buddies saw it but they were to busy cussing the guy out to really take notice of anything important
At a minimum report the incident to the school since it happened so close to school and during the school commute time. The school needs that kind of info to keep track of safety issues. If they get enough issues like that they may get the police to watch some of the problem intersections for cars not yielding to pedestrians and cyclists in the crosswalks (whether the crosswalks are marked or unmarked). The police also sometimes do sting operations where they’ll have an officer in plain clothes cross a street to nab drivers who are ignorant of the crosswalk laws. Also, if the school gets enough issues with crosswalk safety they can get better marked crosswalks in the area and things like that to improve safety for students walking and riding to school.
In legal terms, what you described is called Hit And Run. The guy is guilty!
Ever notice how people, when it’s blatantly obvious they are the cause of accidents, get mad at others? That’s what you call human nature. Still, it’s not acceptable behavior. Did he ask if you were injured before taking off? Doesn’t matter, still hit and run. He probably didn’t have any insurance.
Ever notice how the people that crash into you never seem to have insurance? That’s because they’ve often done it before.
The best solution to this is two basic things:
-
Don’t be like that guy.
-
Don’t be hit by that guy. So now that it’s over and you’re okay, it’s time to realize it might have turned out differently and you might have been injured. It’s not good to be in front of cars. Did you see him coming? Did you think he was stopping? Did you think he would stop just because the light is red? That doesn’t work. Look at the car and driver. Is he looking at you? Or is he looking at his radio and talking on the phone? Important considerations for any of us who cycle in places where cars drive.
Wow, very glad you are safe. What an A**!
Some idiots shouldn’t drive.
At least you’re okay. If he tries it again throw a rock at his car… …or something that won’t get you sued.
you can dent cars with waterbaloons… but uh… yeah, tell the school and then beat his a** and tell me where to find him so i can too…
Damn really is an @$$ here cars are pretty okay ive almost been hit but usually they just look at me in aww cuz im the only one in the friggin town who unicycles
No it isn’t. That’s what you call a shitty, disgusting, sorry excuse for a human being. There may be many like him, but they do not represent the human race. They are not the norm. It is NOT human nature.
I agree with everything else you said, however.
Correction: Many people, when they find out they are blatantly wrong, first tend to push the blame in any possible direction other than themselves. This is the human nature part (there’s a psychological name for it I think). But no this doesn’t make it okay, or acceptable in any way.
Anyway, glad you’re okay. So my original post was how to use it as a learning experience to make you more car-resistant in the future.
You have my sympathies. I was hit by a car earlier this year but thankfully was wearing enough safety gear not to be badly mashed up. It’s taught me some big lessons regarding road riding. I still feel decidedly uncomfortable riding on roads at times. I was quite badly shaken up by the whole thing.
Glad to hear you’re OK though, hopefully it’ll be your first and last run in with a car. Definitely report it to the school and you might as well tell the police. It wont hurt doing so.
mi bdy was ht and thn i was sad?
