hi everyone

i was gone, now im back. I want to upload the 12:fourty teaser, but i got no clue how to compress the video. i know there are some big time computer guys in this forum, so please help!

What format is the video in right now, and how many minutes is it?

the file is mpeg and its about 1 minute long.

Couldn’t you just put it in the gallery?

PS I’m not a big computer wiz but i take classes with computers and I like them. (they don’t talk back to me when I make a stupid comment).

With MPEG-1 you can get a video down to about 3.5 to 4.5 MB/min of video and still keep the video looking good.

Use MPEG-1 format and not MPEG-2. MPEG-1 is playable by everyone, MPEG-2 is only playable by people who have DVD player software installed.

You can try using whatever software program you made the video with. It seems to be able to handle MPEG. Otherwise, you can use TMPGEnc. TMPGEnc is a freeware version of a commercial product.

Tricks for getting smaller file sizes:

Resize the video down to 320x240. There are 75% fewer pixels to encode at 320x240 than at 640x480. That means a 75% smaller file. The video will still look good at 320x240. Video players are very good at being able to scale the video back to a larger size when you play it.

Make sure the audio is compressed. This is a big one. Uncompressed audio is very big. I’ve seen videos where the video is nicely compressed, but the audio was left uncompressed. The result was a very big file. For MPEG files, uncompressed audio will show up as PCM. Compressed audio will show up as MPEG-1 audio Layer II.

You can check the video and audio compression using AVI Codec. AVIcodec will tell you how much the video is compressed and how much the audio is compressed.

Try for about 400-450 Kbps for the video and about 128 Kbps for the audio. Resize the video down to 320x240 or 352x240 depending on which aspect ratio looks best.

Try TMPGEnc and see how it works. If you get stuck I can take you through it step by step.
