Hi everyone, thought id just introduce myself, im aden, 15, young and single lol.
im joking but i thought id say hi to everyone and ask for a bit of help on my journey to the hobby thats awesome…UNICYCLING!
im usually a pretty enthusiastic guy but this whole unicycling thing is kinda annoying me.my problems are as follows:
stalling, i cant manage to be able to go from riding, to slowing down to being able to stop and stay there more than a second.
Any tips for curing this n00b problem
i can stall for a second or two at the most and i can jump, but never land.
What would be the best way to jump? im about 5’5 tall and im riding a 24" without a handle.
Where should my seat be at my waist or as low as she goes?
also a pic of my basic uni
well thats about it for my ‘problems’ hope some of you could help me, possibly a video of how to jump into detail besides ‘just put you cranks flat and hop’
How long have you been riding? If you’re really new to unicycling, doing a standstill for a second is pretty good, lol. For still-standing longer, put more pressure from your feet to the pedals and grip the saddle more tightly with your legs. But it’s one of those things that takes a LONG time to get good at.
For jumping, how are you doing it? A vid would help alot so we can see what you’re doing and what you should correct. Also, getting a saddle with a handle will help you A LOT.
As for your seat, it all depends on how you’re comfortable riding/tricking.
I ride with my seat really low for street but a bit higher for muni.
thanks ill try those tips later, also ill get my brother to do some footage of me some time soon.
yer i prefer riding with the seat low for clearance between the seat and the “betweenmylegs” part lol. Also ive been riding for about 6 weeks so yer i clasify myself as still a noob although i can ride quite well.
Practice will help the first part, as stillstanding comes naturally the more you ride. Somedays you wont be able to stillstand on flat, but once your on something skinny, you can stay there fine. I find the best practice is to do it on something skinny in the first place. A 2x4 set up so your riding on the 2’ part and only a few inches above the ground.
Getting a handle will make it more comfortable for jumping, and that will make it a lot easier for you for now. Try to jump like your on a pogo stick and just bounce there. Once you are comfortable jumping up and down some smaller stuff, work on making it cleaner. Ride up to a ledge, bounce 4 times, then jump up the ledge and ride off. Do it again but only bounce 3 times, and keep practicing until you dont need to bounce before doing your move.
Here’s the first bit of help you need. You’re in the wrong forum. This is Just Conversation. If you want to post about unicycling, please post in Rec.Sport.Unicycling.
Shame on you forum veterans for encouraging a new user to post unicycling questions here. Especially you, Jerrick… why do you think you should be made a moderator if you don’t even recognize a thread that’s in the wrong forum?
